Here is Hans Hoppe's first treatise in English — actually his first book in English — and the one that put him on the map as a social thinker and economist to watch. He argued that there are only two possible archetypes in economic affairs: socialism and capitalism. All systems are combinations of those two types. The capitalist model he defines as pure protection of priva ...more

A strong theoretical overview of the economic and ethical issues involved in the capitalism vs socialism debate and includes Hoppe's argumentation ethics which shows that even the act of taking a position and arguing in favor it is implicitly based on recognition of individualism and the legitimacy of private property. A very readable treatise although the economic side of the argument is not developed in sufficient detail to likely prove convincing on people unfamiliar with Austrian literature.

Very similar to Democracy: The God That Failed in how he analyzes institutions.

Następnie przechodzi do aspektów psychologicznych or

I've always been partially confused as to what exactly constitutes socialism. Whether it was redistribution of wealth or government control of the means of production, it was never really clear. Hoppe has made clear the true nature of socialism as the institutionalized aggression against private property. Hoppe breaks it down into four different types of socialism: Russian-style (Communism), Social-Democratic (American Liberalism), Conservative (Crony Capitalism), and Social Engineering (Nazi-Ge ...more

Mutatis mutandis this is a great book! Hoppe is brilliant in laying out his a priori of argumentation as a rationalistic basis for pure capitalism and as a complete refutation of socialism. One cannot walk away from this book not agreeing with Hoppe's conclusions without making a performative contradiction.

“There can be no socialism without a state, and as long as there is a state there is socialism. The state, then, is the very institution that puts socialism into action; and as socialism rests on aggressive violence directed against innocent victims, aggressive violence is the nature of any state.” 6 likes
