A very simple, repetitive text that provides lots of opportunities for interaction makes this an ideal choice for baby storytime. The illustrations, by Bridget Strevens-Marzo, are simply composed with bright colors and thick black outlines which again works well for babies and toddlers. Older siblings will also relate to the story as the ending reveals an older sister has been entertaining baby with his stuffed animals. Also a good choice for beginning readers due to the repetitive structure and...more
Cute book, but one that's a better idea than a reality. I'm not sure why people write "baby" books that are really too much for babies, but they do, and this is one. Toddlers, sure, but animals that don't make noises (or make difficult noises--crocodiles, anyone?) don't mean much to the babies I read to. Give me farm animals any day; this is what I call an "awwww" book, because all the women at story time go "awwww" when you read it, but the babies don't much care. Probably it's fine to read alo...more
The book show show different animals interact with their babies. It shows love, care, and affection. I think it was a cute book because by just looking at the cover i thought it would have been more about the human baby but it talked more about the animals but those same things that were described can be done to make a human baby smile.
Let the kids write and tell how parents make them smile and then we can make happy laughing smiling faces.

A cute little story featuring several animals and what the animal parent might do to make their baby happy. It encourages movement (I think the giraffe twists his neck and the elephant wiggles his ears), plus the pictures are so cute. At the end the baby is tucked in with all the stuffed animals, so it's also a good bedtime story. (I know, I gave away the end. Sorry!)
Great picture book for both the preschool and toddler set. How do you make baby smile follows different animal momma's and daddy's and how they get their babies to smile. Lots of crowd envolvement possibilitys. Ex. Can you twist your neck like a giraffe, smile like a crocodile, wiggle your ears like an elephant and much much more.

Rhyming text about how to get baby to show expression. This book would have been perfect had they included other family members than mommy and daddy.
Wonderfully bright cheery double-page illustrations show loving animal parents making their babies smile, laugh, and coo.
