I feel like my estimation of Runaways has gone down from the first volume. The first volume was awesome. The second felt like a filler-- seriously? Random vampires? WTF? It didn't even need to exist, in my opinion. The third tied up the issues from the first, fleshed out the plot, and answered my questions. Now, however, I have a few more questions:

Why are the girls always being led around by guys? They're in the majority!
Why do they constantly fight over boys, to the point of the More...

Writer: Brian K. Vaughan - One of the strongest elements in this series is Vaughan's writing. While perhaps targeted at teens because of the age of the characters in the series, adults may find it much more enjoyable. Vaughan's humor references moments in history that these teens would not have been alive for, making it awkward for a straight teen story. However, the humor itself is worth the read. The art could be crud and Vaughan's quick-witted characters would carry you through.

Brian K. Vaughan’s graphic novel series Runaways third instillation provides a set of teenage protagonists that embody the varying degrees of adolescent maturity, social personalities, and interactive relationships that exist in the typical teenage experience. It is with this identifiable and relative subject matter that this title explores the shaping experiences that occur in the archetypical coming of age story as its focal themes discuss discovering a separate, individual identity from your More...

The continuing story of a group of six kids on the run from their parents takes us full circle. After finding out their parents, a super-villain group known as the Pride, are going to destroy the world, the runaways head back underground to take on the Pride. There is only one problem - there is a mole in amongst the group of kids, and that mole has been passing information on to the Pride. Not only is the Pride waiting when the kids arrive, but the mole effectively takes out most of the kids More...

Can I give this 3.5 stars? I liked it better than volume two, but not quite as much as volume one. I know there are more volumes out there, but my fears that the story would meander for issues on end (because of the nature of monthly comics) were allayed by bringing a close to the first 18 issues of Runaways. Adrian Alphona returned for the pencils (I was not a fan of the manga-looking issues in volume two). There were some plot twists, unexpected teenage romances, and a few moments I chuckled a More...

A nice resolution to the story arc that had been constructed through the previous two volumes. The characters are just as lively as I remember and I like that we get to see more about the Pride's past and their motivation for their evil cabal. The mole in the group, mentioned in earlier volumes, is finally revealed and I have to say it was pretty twist worthy. Some bits of the story were a little deus ex machina and felt as though they were resolved a little too quickly. I hope these weak points More...

Runaways vol 3 # 13-18
Art: The art work is the same in the previous two so really nothing left to discuses by now its passable and your used to it....of course thats when they decide to change the artists mid way for two chapters then change them back again but that's for a different time C+

Characters: The characters really change in this one and grow closer as well as further apart. Nico gets her heart broken, chase gets a kiss, the kids kick butt and they grow a bit more by the More...

The best of the series so far, lots of revelations and a good ending if you'd ask me (not that I wanted it to end, I'm just stating what I thought).

It started with how "The Pride" was formed. It would give you a better understanding as to why they wanted the world to end. A lot of interesting facts was also added to the story. A very interesting twist (though looking back, I think that hints were given on the the previous i More...

I remember in 6th grade when this series was all that anybody ever wanted to read. The minute you put it on the shelf, someone took it off. After a while you almost had to fight for the next book in the series. I realized after about the fourth book that I was caught up in it being popular, and was only reading it because everybody else was, when it actually was terrible! It's plot was constantly changing, as well as the illustrators and writing styles.

I think that, if Runaways existed when I was a teenager, I would have become a complete comic book nerd as opposed to logging onto MUDs and spending hours on IRC. While Watchmen and Transmetropolitan helped me gain an appreciation for comic books that I didn't have before, Runaways has essentially turned me into a comic book fan, something I never would have imagined previously. High quality stuff here.

This volume paid off on the opening set-up and was a nice wrap to the first story arc. The climax was nail-bitingly exciting, even knowing in advance who the traitor was. (The drawbacks of finally getting around to reading a 3 year old story.) I love these kids' personalities and the reactions they have to the bizarre situations they find themselves in. They face all sorts of pain and betrayal, but can't help thinking their lives are still kind of cool. That just endears them to me in a way More...

Hurray for comics with fascinating kick-ass female characters of all types.
Rah-rah for the slightly chubby Gert scoring the hot surfer boy.
Woot woot for bringing in characters from other comics and making X-men references.
And I dare you to find another piece of literature that makes you feel sympathy for a velociraptor.

The story just keeps on getting better, I liked the twist in finding out who the mole was, I kind of already knew, but it made for an interesting plot twist. I love that they meet at the James Dean memorial, and the last line is a quote from Rebel Without a Cause, dude how awesome is that. I'm really interested to see where the story goes from here.

A very enjoyable experience. I actually gasped - twice while reading this book.

The art in this comic book/graphic novel continues to be exceptional. The story remains interesting especially as much of the back story is finally explained. I look forward to #4 - True Believers.

Can it get better?

7th&up. Mmm, Mmm, good. The traitor is revealed, and there is a final battle between the Pride and the ragtag band of misfit Runaways. Some relationships falter while others are formed, and I can't wait to find out what comes next for these heroes in training.

The Runaways series is often hi-larious and heartwrenching at the same time. It gives them great rereadability. This book was no exception. Funny, engaging, and with a few unexpected gut shots. Vaughn writes the best stuff for these kids. :)

Strong finish to this particular story arc, with equal parts battling, quibbling, & romantic bits. Spoiler: The Pride face their downfall, with some very interesting twists, and potentially devastating consequences for the children. (The least of which is being separated by authorities and sent to various different types of foster care.)
My only complaint is that I would have rather explored the Pride and their goals at a more leisurely pace. Granted, while reading Runaways, I was very p More...

Molly rules, by the way.

Our teens finally confront their parents and the mole inside the group of kids is revealed.

There are plenty of hokey aspects to this series, but it is so much fun that I don't care about parsing it for problems.

I liked it, it was interesting and had some nice plot twists but to be honest- I read this book a few days ago and I can't remember what exactly happened in this volume. Maybe I need to give it another read....

Another page-turning adventure. What I am really curious about is where the comic is going from here, as the overarching plot of the first 18 comics has ended (in spectacular fashion).

The Runaways books are really entertaining but I can't help but think I would enjoy them a lot more if I were a maladapted teen. They really play on distrust of adults and whatnot which I probably would have been all for when I was a kid...but not so much now.

Volume 3 of Runaways features the teenaged heroes as they make their move on The Pride, their evil collection of parents. Before that, though, we learn more about the Pride and their motivations - which are definitely unique as far as villain motivation is concerned.[return]This definitely feels like a conclusion to the series, as we see the kids and their parents "in final battle", and the 'traitor' subplot also reaches its conclusion (although not with the revelation I had been expe More...

Brian K. Vaughan, Runaways, vol. 3: The Good Die Young (Marvel, 2005)

The first major story arc of Runaways (and I mean “major” as in “they started numbering at 1 again after this) comes to a close here as the Runaways and the Pride are set for a major confrontation... but with a mole in the Runaways and treachery in the Pride, no one can afford to trust anyone. We also learn the secret of the Pride's power source, and why they do the things they do. And, of course, the traitor is rev More...
