This outstanding book tells the frustrating, persistent and hopefully optimistic attempts by the USFWS and the Peregrine Fund to avoid extinction of the California condor. It begins with the early history of the program, the difficult decisions that had and have to be made, and the continuing battle of wildlife biologists against the man-made obstacles that continue to threaten these magnificent scavengers. This was a great way to learn how hard it is to save a species that was almost extinct. It makes you feel guilty when you read about all the different types of trash found in dead chicks digestion tracks. It was also fascinating as a biologist that tries to keep brown bears coming to close to humans reading about the antics of condors and the biologists that are trying to teach birds to stay away from humans. Good Book!!!

Wow! This book is amazing. Well written and incredibly informative. Can make anyone into a die-hard condor advocate. It documents the california condors incredible brush with extinction and the amazing conservation efforts to help prevent this amazing creature from a terrible fate. It made me want to help the condor, to educate the public to not use lead ammunition and not litter, as these simple things are killing condors.

This book discusses in detail the issues that have plagued the California Condor as the species struggles to return from the brink of extinction. This particular book deals with the condors released near the Grand Canyon and it was written by a woman who has studied the condors at the canyon. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
