after all the better books in the gossip girl this was a huge letdown.
The earlier books were so much better than this bundle of crap.
It was like she wanted to continue her books because, goshity, people still like her
stuff and this was like: I couldn't think of more complex characters.
Some of them were the same:
-The head honcho beeotch-addicted to shopping
-New girl-perfectionist, oblivious to New York's popularityness
-New girl-boho rebel (of course), hates school, hates mainstream...more

Meet the Carlyles, a new trio to hit the Gossip Girl Scene! Owen, Avery and Baby! Get ready for the triple threat!
Owen, the testosterone of the three, is very hot and a swimmer (I like him already)! Envied in Nantucket by his player persona, he only has eyes for one girl. The girl of his dreams.
Avery. Poor Avery all this girl wants is to fit in! Is that too much to ask?! Her scheme of perfect attempts leaves her no better off than before, it isn’t until she really lets loose and things...more

It took me longer to read this than probably any other book in the series -- I really was not feeling the new characters until toward the end, when it picked up. I will say, I'd heard they were going to make them public schoolers, which seemed like a mistake (the whole private school milieu is one of the more well-drawn aspects of this series) and they didn't -- Constance Billard is back in session.
So why such a hard read? For one, there are so many it's hard to keep them straight, since th...more

The Carlyles is the first installment in the new series of Gossip Girl books. The old crew has moved out and in come the younger generation. I picked this up out of sheer curiosity; I enjoyed the original series lightly and have become a fan of the show so I decided to just check the new series out.
This series follows the Carlyle triplets who are new to the Upper East Side. This book has the same combination of snobby characters, angst-ridden additions, and crazy behavior (drinking, smoking...more

I think my biggest problem with this novel was it was meant to be a reboot of the series with all new characters... Which I loved because I was glad the author retired Serena, Nate, Blair and all the others but...
The fact that half of these new characters seem way too much like the "first class" was a bit bothersome. You could make a nice flow chart to show exactly who is like who--Avery = Blair, Rhy = Nate--which I found highly uncreative. That and the use of intials in the fake ...more

The Carlyles by Cecily von Ziegesar is one of the best gossip girl books out there. It was about social ranking. When new kids come into school it was a fight for the girls to stay on top of their game. This book has some mature content that shouldn't be read by young addiences.

I read this book in one day because I am a sucker for the books "created by" Von Ziegesar. I put created by in quotes because I noticed it when I was reading some of the other Gossip Girl books and thought "Hmmm". Then I read a book about a Ghost Writer and yesterday (while curled up reading my cheesy adolescent fiction and thoroughly enjoying it)I thought-GHOST WRITER! So, though I can't give this writer props for the book itself I can say these puts are guilty pleasures. Ye...more

Sometimes I get in reading ruts.
You know, the ruts where it's just annoying to read anything that takes actual thought and reading seems like a chore.
A book like this solves all of that. I could not put this down, and found myself sneaking a page or two during work. I love the Gossip Girl series on the CW, (Doesn't everybody have their guilty pleasures?) and this book was just as good, if not better, than watching an episode of the show.
Sure, it's always the same thing: Descripti...more

The Carlyle kids have moved into the neighborhood -- and things are about to get wild.
As if they weren't already?!?
Avery, Baby, and Owen are the kids to envy now. The triplets of a well-known New York socialite are here to stay.
They all have spunk, attitude, and are destined to be the next Blair, Nate, and Serena whether they want to be or not.

This book was refreshing because it had a different plot than the previous books. Although it wasn't originally written by the same author, I believe she did a fair job on it. The plot was intriguing though, with all the conflicts and resolutions. I am also planning on continuing reading this continuous series to see where it is headed. Although the plot dragged in some areas, the book was overall good. I would recommend it to my peers.

I was hoping this series would be even better. But it wasn't.
I felt The Carlyles were dissappointing. I felt as if the ideas happening in the story were overused and getting boring. I am not entirely sure if I should persue the second book in this new series.
I wouldn't say I dislike The Carlyles. But it's definitely not better than Gossip Girl. The plot is a bit boring and the ideas are too expected. But without a doubt, there is a scandal cooking in this story, just like in the earlier ser...more

Overall, I really liked this book. It is really a good beach read, complete fluff! but I enjoy having something like that from time to time. I actually think that I like the characters and the storylines so far better than those from the original series. Though, it's pretty early in the series to say that for sure!
I haven't finished the original Gossip Girl series yet though, so I'm a little worried I maybe missed meeting the characters from this book in one of the later GG books.

This is the first book in the continuation of the Gossip Girl series. The original characters are all gone and this book - The Carlyles - focuses on completely different rich kids living in Manhattan and going to the same schools as before. I thought it was ok. The characters were in the same vein as the previous book. The plots are starting to stretch a little thing but since this is a guilty pleasure for me, much like reading US Magazine, I am glad to see the series continue.

gossip girl leads you into the life of upscale teenagers with a lot of drama but since the usual trouble makers are off to college gossip girl stays behind and follows a new group of rich young high schoolers. the new group of kids are just as much fun to party with but have even more problems and drama. you decide which are more michevious.

I actually liked this one. I had grown very tired of Serena, Blair and the rest of the people from the first series. After several books I didn't want to read any more. But there were all new people this time. I liked the triplets, especially Baby. The other characters are pretty flat. Jack isn't as multifaceted at Blair was. But I enjoyed it, overall and will probably read the next one. I don't think it should be as long as the other series, though.
