Far away in the deep rolling ocean lived Smiley Shark. Smiley Shark longed to dip and dive, jiggle and jive, dart and dash with a splash and a splash with all the other fish; but whenever he smiled at them they swam away. But when all of the other fish are trapped in a fisherman's net, it's up to Smiley Shark to find away to free them-and he saves the day with his big, too...more

This is a great book. This book could be used to talk about the different marine life. I would aslo use this to talk about how children should be nice to everyone, no matter their shape or size. You could also use this book to talk about how you should also help others, even if they have been mean to you!

what's not to love about a shark as a main character in our house!? smiley just wants friends but doesn't seem to understand that he is a shark and therefore, scary. he saves the day and makes the friends with some smart thinking.

Smiley Shark's toothy smile frightens the other sea animals but comes in handy when they are caught in a net.

When shark smiles, everyone is afraid, even though he is friendly. When all his friends get caught in a net, Shark helps them by smiling at the fisherman.

One of my favorite books to read to preschoolers. They love the bright illustrations and the story of a shark who just wants to smile and be friends.

Nice pleasant story. Did not pass the Coale test though. He wants to watch Furry Vengance with Brandon Fraser. =)

Even if you're a big scary shark, you got good traits, man.

This is a great book for PreK-2nd to read. Its about a shark who is really friendly and tries to make friends with the other sea life. Everyone is scared of the shark and runs from him. When a fisherman captures some of the fish in the ocean, Smiley Shark comes to the rescue and scares off the fisherman. The fish become free and become Smiley Shark's friends! This would be a great book to teach children about not judging others and to look from the inside instead of the out. The illustration in...more

Another great underwater tale from Ruth Galloway. The colourful pictures are fun. My daughter liked Smiley Shark's big, toothy smile.

Smiley shark loves to smile but everyone is afraid of his big, sharp, toothy grin.
This was cute enough but my 5 year old was quick to point out that "it was not at all very realistic because a shark would never make friends with other fish. He would EAT them!!"

We read this book almost every night. Poor Smiley just wants to make friends but everyone is scared of his big teeth until one day he comes to the rescue. I think I could recite the whole book at this point!
Amanda
This was a cute and uplifting story about a shark who didn't understand why everyone swam away when he smiled. My 3 1/2 yr old seemed to like it, so a keeper in my book.
Nancy
Cute, simple story with appealing pictures. A different approach to the same basic story as Andrew Clements' "Big Al."
