I acquired this book because I was being commissioned by a friend whose son is a Harry Potter fan. This book, while focused on Harry Potter themed knits, still has some great patterns for non-Potter fans as well. The patterns are pretty easy to understand, and there are a variety of skill levels represented. I'm probably going to make the wizard's hat for my friend, which could also be done in pink for a pretty princess. My hope is to eventually make "Hermoine's Knitting Bag" for mysel...more
Original projects for fans of the Harry Potter series or for friends of fans to make. I like that it includes suggestions for house colours as they appear in the books/movies. It was reasonable priced for the amount of projects/patterns, some knitting books are crazy expensive. There is some crochet and duplicate stitch as well as knitting. My daughter had me working on projects almost immediately and the first one completed was the Weasley sweater in Griffindor Red. I also finished the yea...more
This is full of cute Harry Potter-related knitting patterns--I had never realized the following the knitting in the HP movies had gained! There are quite a few patterns that are directly from the movies, as well as a few others that are not (like capes, wand bags, etc). Definitely a must if you or anyone else you know loves Harry Potter and you want to knit something for them!
A good idea, but most of the patterns in the book aren't that fun or interesting. You're better off looking for Harry Potter knitting patterns on the 'net -- like the atypically knit scarf guide, or the Fair Isle house bags.
I love Harry Potter...and I love knitting...so to me this book promises many hours of creative Harry Potter fun! I like the way the book is organized, with visits with the Weasleys, a knitter's exploration of Diagon Alley and a creative foray into Hogwarts, with all sorts of awesome magical patterns. So glad I was able to get a hold of this one for my collection!
Craft books are tricky to review, because they're so different from normal books. I've done two of the knits--namely the house sweater and hat--and they're fine pieces, though I misjudged the size of the sweater. The knitting patterns are easy to read, and my family borrowed this book repeatedly to work on several different projects.
I found this book interesting and useful though some of the patterns aren't that nice. That said, I did find a few of them really nice like Hermione's hat and mittens, the house scarves and beret. I will definitely try to make some of the things in this book.
Every time I look at this book my opinion changes. I'm sure that part of it is I'm not an "uber" Potter fan (don't hurt me!) Some of the stuff is great, but for the most part, no. Still, I may have to make a scarf and a pair of socks :)
This book is so wonderful it's nearly magic. This book contains projects in all skill levels that range from the famous Weasley sweater to Wand holders, Snitches to Socks ( including Doby's socks ) and even a lovable an' lumpy Errol.
An assortment of cute patterns, but for skilled knitters it's unnecessary... all you need are the proper house-colors and some basic hat, scarf, sweater patterns. That said, I am still glad I have it because it's cute ;)

This is a must read for any knitter who first learned the craft just so that they could knit their own house scarf. There are many inventive patterns as well as re-creations of the knit wear seen in the movies.
I'm pretty excited by this book. I can't wait to start the hip scarf - already have my yarn! - and some of the other projects look fun, too. Perhaps my first sweater shall be a wee little Weasley sweater ornament. Some of the projects are awesome, such as the Weasley clock blanket, but also incredibly out of my reach. There's a good number of First Year projects that I can increase my skill on, though, and some of the OWL levels look pretty reasonable, as well. Yay!

Who wouldn't love a book full of Harry Potter-inspired knits??? I have successfully made two hats from this book, one of which is especially cute (I messed up the other one). Love, love, love this book.
There are some ok patterns here but most were so dorky I couldn't imagine anyone wearing them--no wait, maybe I can.
There's the pattern for a "wand holder" that I'm going to use for carrying my needles and that's about it. I might try the scarfs though.

I loved the Harry Potter series and have several knitter friends who knit all things Harry. LOL The patterns in the book are cute but I don't know how many I would honestly take the time to make.

Recommends it for:
Knitters who love Harry Potter. Or Harry Potter fans who love to knit.
Knitting patterns inspired by Harry Potter. Some are a little silly, but there are good ones, and the house sweaters look accurate - one day I'll have enough yarn to knit one. Hahaha. One day.
A lot of the patterns in this book are too advanced for me. However, there are some great scarf and hat patterns. I can't wait to knit up a Harry Potter themed scarf for my nephews and myself!
It was really informative and gave me tons of great ideas for future knitting projects! :) I'm going to try to knit a Ravenclaw scarf soon after christmas 2010.
Fun patterns, easy to follow. Perfect for any potter fan!
I made the bookscarf to warm up, and I'm now working on a Gryffindor beret. It looks good so far!

Some cute patterns, but I wanted to like this more than I did. The Weasley Sweater ornaments were fun and a hit with my nephews, though!
My favorite patterns in this book are for the house scarves that you can customize according to what house you belong to.

This book of knits is a scrumptious indulgence in Harry Potter fun! I found it on the shelves of Half Price Books, and was engrossed in the idea of knitting my favorite woolen paraphernalia from the series. I really appreciate the traditional patterns, providing you with classic designs which can or cannot be Harry Potter themed.
Some of these projects are a crying shame. But I totally made my husband a Weasley sweater for Christmas.
Lots of cute patterns, some a bit silly... a tie-belt? really? But I love Ron's Raglan sweater.
I haven't actually done anything from this book, but I cannot wait!! Too fun!
Easy patterns, however some of the designs are truly atrocious.
