The first volume of Igort's Baobab is wonderful and mysterious, a magically visual voyage back-and-forth between the disparate locales of Japan and South America in the year 1910. The barest elements of plot are unveiled herein, but Igort's unhurried approach to his subject matter creates even more room for his beautiful pen and watercolor work, and that's all to the good. A great start to what may prove to be one of the most interesting comics series of recent years.
