This book is massive (about 500 pages plus endnotes, references, etc), and exhaustive. It's a useful reference (as it goes into ridiculous detail about every aspect, and I mean it when I say every, of the Reformation under Henry), but I wouldn't recommend it except as a reference. What makes it useful is the exhaustive detail - but this also makes it incredibly boring, and while over telling the story has uses, it takes everything that was interesting about the Reformation, dries it out, and is ...more
Full of detail, and appears impeccably researched, but much of the data is gossip and propaganda, and as such should be treated with caution. Bernard doesn't do this.
