Disheveled, disoriented, and ill, Greg Lukas didn't look like much of a pilot. But the Michaelsons, a family of interstellar traders, had to hire another crew member or lose the ship that was their livelihood. So they took Lukas on temporarily, assuming that he was a good pilot with a bad attitude.
But Lukas's problem was much deeper: as a pilot in the Space Corps, he had s

Margaret Davis' Mind Light is, in some ways, three different books, with the first one easily being my favorite. The first book is the story of a family freighter taking on and coming to know a pilot who seems to be haunted by secrets, and at times it made me think "Hey, Margaret Davis must have read C.J. Cherryh's Merchanter's Luck and Rimrunners !" Not such a bad thing, since I'm a C.J. Cherryh fan, but let's get that out there. It's not as involving as those two novels, but I see a definit ...more

Another from my "reading Del Rey Discovery" project. This was an entertaining sci-fi tale. After an elder member of their family passes away, a family-run trader ship is desperate for a new pilot. And on a backwater outpost, there's a pilot who's desperate for a job...
The family takes him on, and once he cleans up a bit, the current 'captain' begins to find him very attractive. Plus, he seems really talented. But why did he get fired from his last job, and from his military position before that?

Greg Lukas is a pilot out of luck, he's sick and abandoned on a space station in the middle of nowhere. The Michaelsons take him on as pilot and get drawn into his past and his future.

He was once part of the space corp, had stumbled on a secret someone wants to keep hidden, but that secret is important to a lot of people, and the Michaelsons are begining to care.

A light SF story with some interesting twists and turns.
