This is the nearly perfect introduction to understanding Social Network Analysis for the total novice. Almost no math. Easy to read and relatively short. Focuses on the basic concepts. Of course, after you read it you'll go on to other works, but this is the place to start if you aren't already familiar with SNA.
Great handbook on social network analysis ~ practical and helpful applications of SNT. Not recommended for the average layperson as it requires some understanding of the theory behind SNA to apply the formulas/calculations presented in this handbook.
Good discussion of how relational data differs from individual data.
