This book would have gotten a much higher rating if not for the snide, judging tone of the author. Yes, the subject matter is a bit out there and, yes, some of the areas covered were a bit disturbing, but I feel that the tone taken by Eva Christina was not at all called for. She is the one who chose to write about the varied and diverse world of kink. As such, I feel that she should have been able to set aside any personal prejudices she might have had about the subject matter.

Exasperatingly heteronormative and frustratingly glib. Christina offers no bibliography or source notes for anything she references or quotes, and since the topics she discusses that I already know about are either highly condensed and glossed over or incorrect--by the time I reached her definition of "pansexulity" in the Kink Lingo chapter, I was starting to wonder if this whole book was a joke--I couldn't trust anything written about topics I wasn't familiar with.

A fun little guide that tries to give an overview of kink and less vanilla acts of sexuality from a cultural perspective. Offers some fun history about the role of kink in some famous and infamous historical figures and cultures. It is a stroll down memory lane in some cases where politicians and celebrities have achieved more than their 15 minutes of fame due to their sexual perversity. Covers a pretty broad range of paraphilias, but to this reader it all seemed pretty tame for the most part. I ...more

Fun in a trashy kind of way. Definitely not an academic read by any means due to the poor writing skills of the author. It's sad how anyone can write a book these days regardless of writing skill or having something of real interest to say. With that said, I chuckled and was disgusted a few times throughout this book. Like I said, fun-trashy.

Less an actual overview of the world of kink, more a collection of facts. If your hoping for some in-depth learning about sexual kinks, this is a mediocre source. If you're entertained by celebrity scandals and crazy tidbits about sexual mishaps, you might enjoy this book. I should say there are some nuggets of useful insights, but it's not a particularly deep or thorough read.

To see a blow by blow on why this book is just terrible and corrections on things that author got wrong go to https://mibookreviews.wordpress.com/

Mind you, this is not a page by page of what is wrong because I am not perfect and I was getting upset. Also I rated this book 1 star, because there is no less you can rate a book.

If I didnt already know what 90% of this stuff was, I would probably think this was informative. But since I was looking for more of an intro to bdsm kink, Im not really impressed. Honestly this reads like someone's research paper project.

This book was written to explain to those 10% of people who only practice the missionary position what they are missing. Not much new information in here.
