If you desire a well-rounded Christmas read, this collection fits the bill. It features Dickens' "The Story of the Goblins Who Stole a Sexton," that reads like a run-up to "A Christmas Carol"; Gogol's "The Night before Christmas"; Sherlock Holmes's "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle"; Trollope's "Christmas at Thompson Hall"; and many, many others, twenty in all, including of more modern time, Alice Munro's "The Turkey Season".

Wonderful, wonderful. Tesdell has collected a fairly canonical set of diverse authors and perspectives: from the humorous to the sentimental, the risque to the traditional. In a collection where Waugh and Saki compete with Tolstoi and Nabokov, hedged by Bowen and Dickens; well, you get the point. A solid collection.

This was a fun read as it introduced me to writings by several authors I had not read before. Who knew I would like a Sherlock Holmes story so much? I think I might have to buy this and tuck it away with my Christmas decorations until next year.

Good group of stories, some classic ones. A couple not so good. Nice book to have at Christmas time and pick up here and there to read a story. Nice touch to have out on the table as well if you are concerned about the decor of your Christmas look (As I am) :)

Marvelous collection of storie in a beautifully produced little book. Worth it for the Dickens and Gogol stories, but all are well-chosen.

This was a hard book to rate because I really enjoyed some of the stories and had a hard time getting through others. The Gogol was particularly painful. The Dickens, the Tolstoy and most of the more contemporary stories were wonderful. This is a fun volume to read at Christmas time and a good way to get an introduction to some great and/or well-known authors.

Great anthology of CHristmas stories from some of the world's greatest authors! I love how it is a mix of spiritual, sentiment, and fun. and on a completely visual point, this book is beautifully made with a ribbon bookmark, and cloth binding with gold embossed title!

A lovely collection, and the stories picked aren't a gathering that will make you tired of the holiday season. While a few are overtly Christmasy--Dickens, Gogol, Trollope--many have only a loose connection such as time of year--Waugh, Spark, Munro.

I enjoyed reading this, but some of these stories weren't very Christmasy at all. I really really loved Truman Capote's A Christmas Memory, and also Willa Cather's The Burglar's Christmas. Anthony Trollope's story was hilarious and very enjoyable.

I always like to read something seasonal around the holidays and this is a handy way to read a short, festive story during the hectic holiday season.

A eclectic collection of Christmas stories, from sentimental to hilarious, from Charles Dickens to Alice Munro. A really fun read.

This is a collection of short stories that are about Christmas. So far I've read the Dickens and Gogol stories. I like it.
