Jane Austen half: What a witty & brilliant 16 year old, Jane was! This little history was written solely for home entertainment (sister Cassandra painted tiny watercolors of each ruler to accompany it.) The satire is extremely smart and I enjoyed seeing some misspellings and realized some were intentional (Anne Bullin?!).
Charles Dickens half: While this was only an excerpt, Dickens' "History" is quite long. It's no wonder that the entire work was used as a school text in Victor...more

While I was most interested in Jane Austen's History of England, hers was especially outside of my level of knowledge of English History, due to her witty comments being outside of this poor American's grasp.
Dicken's Children's History of England was highly enjoyable for an ignorant Yankee, although a bit on the long side, as the section on James I seemed to never end.

a fun read. the jane austen bit was pretty much an extended inside joke, and the charles dickens bit was just an excerpt, but they were still both enjoyable and i probably would have never read either if they hadn't been in this cute little pink and blue version.

I feel that if I am to call myself a Jane Austen fan I must read all of her works. I am excited to start as I understand she wrote this and performed it for her family at the age of 16.

It was interesting to read the two versions, but not all that insightful since neither are full accounts of the history and are far from objective.

I only read the Jane Austen half of this book.
She was a bad speller.
