This wasn't as good as the first two books and here is a couple of reason why:

The main character in this book is Rita, who is lovely but she doesn't live at Beach View Boarding House. This has always been the very heart of the story and although we do see how everyone is getting on there, it doesn't feel like the main focus.

Peggy is missing for most of the book, she goes to visit her boys at Christmas which is great for her but not for the reader! She is one of my favourite characters and she

To begin with I was a bit confused with the beginning of this book and thought I has read the series in the wrong order! However I hadn't and this is by far the best one of the series yet! Once again I was laughing and crying and it really does make you feel very patriotic. I cant wait for more of her books and I really want to hear more about rita! Can not recommend enough!

This was an excellent book by Ellie Dean it's the first book of hers I've read and I will be reading more. Excellent characters and story line I found it hard to put the book down. Rita has lost her mum at an early age and her father is away at war work but she has plenty of people to look after her. Problem is when Italy sides with Germany in the war her friends don't all agree with her having friends who are Italian and she soon learns who her fried steak are. Louise wants to work while the wa ...more

I'm reading this series at the moment. I read book 4 before book 3 you could read them as stand alones but they are so good you'd want to read the rest to see what happens to the family. It follows the Reilly family as they run a boarding house through WW2 and you follow the lives of all the different characters that board with them. Well worth a read.
