Sex and Samosas is an emotionally packed book about one woman’s journey as she reflects on her childhood, teen years, marriage and her East Asian culture.

The book is an extremely well written story filled with laugh out loud humor, hilarious secondary characters (friends and relatives), a well-developed plot with passages of time that every woman will be able to identify with; no matter what the ethnicity or age. Example: Substitute pasta for Samosa, and the protagonist could be Italian. Substit

Leena was less than enthused when a friend insisted she accompany her to a toy party, it wasn't that she had anything against Barbies or building blocks; it was more that these toys were for grown-ups and she wasn't sure if this was what she needed to spice up a sex life with her husband that was still loving but had become routine. But after some wine and a great sales pitch, Leena decided that maybe with a little instruction and some double A batteries these feminine power tools could provide ...more

Sex & Samosas is more than the title implies, or maybe it isn't. Sex? Check. But even though there is some sex, and men take notes, the real story is about the people and what happens to them throughout the book. Is Leena, a South Asian woman the same at the end as she was at the beginning? Is her husband? Is her best friend Mahjong/Mae Wong?

Learn about the difficulties of being in a Western world while having to worry about what your South Asian community thinks of certain things.

Jasmine has a fantastic sense humour. A wonderfully funny, yet touching and poignant piece of fiction.

Leena is the very definition of a traditional South Asian woman. Life is good with her traditional family and her traditional marriage - that is,until Western culture intrudes and she finds herself at a sex toy party. At first embarrassed by what she sees and learns at the party, Leena soon embarks on a life changing passage of self discovery (pun intended) that causes her traditional Eastern customs to clash with her new found Western behaviour in an endearing and often very funny way.

was given this by my father-in-law (ex) with the inscription "Love yourself first" in the front. It was apparently voted the best book to masturbate to by someone, so the inscription has a different meaning than the usual one.
I found it much like an 8th grade giggle-fest. Purely for people for whom understanding one's body is a totally new concept. I found it quite dreadful and not romantic, self-affirming, or meaningful. I protested to the author who was reading it at a Women's Day thing that g

Funny, witty and a great mix of cultures.
Really enjoyed this tale of one woman's journey to sexual enlightenment, even if she didn't intend to begin the journey in the first place ;)

Jasmine's debut novel is frank, screamingly funny, and profoundly charming. She writes with ease and a total lack of self consciousness. There are a number of unforgettable scenes, including one with the titled samosa that will have you thinking next time you bite into one. Warm, witty and revealing, I thoroughly enjoyed her book and I learned a few things too!
a humourous & candid portrait of a woman's journey into celebration of self told with compassion. this book was a fun, interesting read. i'm looking forward to hearing the author read from it at tonight's Cocktales event at Venus Envy
