This volume ties into the Blue Lotus but it introduces Captain Haddock as an alcoholic sailor that Tintin attempts to rescue from himself. There is a minor twinging in an outdated imperialist/colonialist moment involving the Captain and an angry crowd... but this is Herge's earlier work which tended to follow the political lines of the day.
Overall, a great tale of daring do as Tintin takes on drug runners (meeting recurring nemesis Captain Allan) and saves the day.

The Crab with the Golden Claws is best known for introducing Tintin's best friend and one of the series' most memorable characters: Captain "Blistering Barnacles" Haddock. As Tintin is investigating a mysterious can of crab and a drowned sailor, he meets Haddock, a "miserable wretch" who's being kept in ample alcohol so his insidious first mate, Allan, can run a drug operation. Crab had to be lengthened to fit the standard 62-page format ...

After six comics Captain Haddock gets intruduced. And in this adventure Tintin fights drug smuggling. This book is interesting because Herge draws so well and so precise. This is truly a good book for Tintin fans for young chidlren.

People who love a good adventure; those who want to stay young at heart
This is a classic Tintin adventure because it is the introduction of the Captain Haddock character who is a staple in most of the following adventures. "Blistering Barnacles!!!"

I have been reading Tintin all my life. This one has always been my favorite. Intro'd Captain Haddock, who is better than any comic relief in the world.
