there are 2 not too good things about this book. the first is that it is too short (192 pgs). it is a marvellous story about the english cuisine during the centuries beginning with William the Conquerer and till Eduard VII. the book includes funny and interesting details that the serious historic books usually miss. and of course there are these great recipes and you can cook by yourself som

Royal Recipes by Michèle Brown, is a fun little culinary history of England, giving a brief chapter on the tastes in food, and one recipe, for each monarch from William the Conquerer through Edward VII. It's not comprehensive, of course, but it's full of amusing anecdotes, and the recipes are interesting.

If I have any quibble, it's that the original recipes are not included, so we can't compare them to Ms. Brown's adaptations. I like to see original recipes, even if it's "Take a Conyng fle him"

What an informative and super easy to read book! If you've watched Supersizers on Cooking Channel this is a good handbook for the show (especially Regency and Medieval periods)as some of the recipes and facts are here. I would not attempt any of the recipes but its interesting to read what items were used as ingredients and the different tastes of the English monarchs.

Really enjoyed this book filled with royal food history tidbits, such as peas were not introduced into England until the time of Henry VIII and tea when it was first introduced in the 17th century in England was thought of as bad for health and morals. I wouldn't try most of the recipes due to the fact they contained innards, but some look appetizing.
