Before blogging, there was Uncle Al Sicherman in the Minneapolis paper. Weekly, for 18 or so years, we were all enchanted by tales of lost funnels, car repairs, Little Debbie Nutty bars, dogs and daily life. I was saddened by the loss of his son Joe as a college freshman, having just learned I was pregnant with my first. It's been great to go back and laugh out loud, from a slightly older perspective, at Uncle Al's alarmingly normal life and descent, as he says "into mental cottage cheese". Ther...more
Uncle Al is hilarious! I read his columns in the Mpls. Star Tribune on and off over the years. This book contains some of his best. It needed a little copyediting, and the publisher ought to have included the dates for each (one can often tell by some of the references at least what era--late 80s, last couple of years, etc.--each is, but the actual date would have been nice), but otherwise a fun read.
