Warren Dean was a pioneer and he wrote about Atlantic Forest history in a broad scale (time and space) that is unmatched till the present. These are the merits of the book, and they are huge. However it has the main flaw of considering the forest history only as one of destruction. And I think that the non-destruction (construction?)aspect of Atlantic forest history is of great importance. A study of the destruction of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil. Dean analyzes several environmental factors that contributed to the loss of this forest. It forces the reader to wonder if this pattern is being implemented on the Amazon Forest as well.
