This Bible starts at the beginning of the "story". The hero finds his beloved. He loses his beloved and has to go to extreme lengths to get her back, even giving the ultimate sacrifice to rescue her.
The pictures aren't as realistic as I would've preferred (a pet peeve about children's books), but this Bible shows God as loving and caring and non-punitive, something rare in children's Bibles.
One of my favorite examples of this atypical approach is the story of The Fall.

The strength of this book is two fold. One, every story ends with a reference to Jesus, showing how He illustrates a truth, full fills a prophecy, exemplifies a character trait, etc. Secondly, the illustrations are truly unique and not "westernized". Jesus really has an olive complexion as his Jewish roots would indicate. People and angels come in various colors.

What a beautiful, rich, simple book. The author chooses passages from throughout the Bible, from beginning to end, and tells them as stories so that children can not only understand them but also come away seeing Christ in all of the stories. It is wonderful that Sally Lloyd-Jones is seeking to reach children with this message of the Bible being all about Christ from beginning to end. The stories are simple, yet the meaning is rich and far from superficial. I have come away with much to think ab...more

This author takes key stories from the bible and tells them in such captivating ways. Never before have I been so touched by a children's book. I got this to use in my kindergarten Sunday school class, but older children and adults will fall in love with it as well. It is written so simply, yet the message is so profound. It paints the picture of a loving and compassionate God and how everything, since the beginning of time, pointed to the coming of his son, Jesus. It's written in such a way...more

Parents of kids 4-8.
This book connects the stories of the Bible with the one central theme of God's love story through Jesus. Reads like a storybook but it's a true story! Good way to show kids that the Bible is interesting and exciting and teaches younger kids that it's all about Jesus. This would be a great bedtime book to read one story a night. It doesn't capture everything in the entire Bible but rather highlights points about God's love and also makes some of the stories more appropriate for kids. Howeve...more

Oh my! This is an unbelievable kids Bible! It is one of the few that put every story in the context of the whole narrative of the Bible. Every story is connected to the plan of God in Jesus. It is theologically rich, but still understandable to kids, funny, and moving.
You may wonder why I'm reading a kids Bible. I got it to help me learn how to teach 3rd grade Sunday school, plus it is good to recommend to someone who is new to the Bible. They can get a sampling of key stories and the sweep...more

If you are 6 to 10 or so this book was actually written for you. If you aren't I would recommend setting aside years and picking it up, in the process being thankful that there are 6-10 year olds who get some things better than their elders. The book captures the Bible as a story about Jesus because God loves people. It is both very human and very Christ centered. The book is also both well written and well illustrated, making all those simple, wonderful ideas both accessable and beautiful.

We're reading this to our son, a chapter every night. The pictures are very artistic, and the writing is superb. Every chapter reads like it is an individual children's book, but all are tied together with hanging endings... showing how all of the Bible, Old and New Testament, point to climax and resolution in Jesus. It is a little above the head of our son (he's almost three), but still holds his attention with the creative writing and illustrations, and the exciting stories.

This children's Bible was recommended to us by our friends and we fell in love with it! Kyla loved reading the stories with us so much that we finished the whole Bible in just a few weeks reading one story each night before bed. It is so well written and the illustrations are very creative. We loved it so much that we've started reading it all over again.

This is a book by a woman from my church. She has an amazing way of tying in Jesus and the Gospel into every familiar Old Testament story(just like our pastor Tim!). Each story has a beautiful arc, and the illustrations are quirky in the best way. Tim has suggested it's a must-read for adults as well as kids. I have to agree!

So glad this book was written - we wept reading the first few stories. It tells the "love story" of the whole Bible. It is a good "second read" of the OT without giving away the name of Jesus until he is actually born. I recommend it to all those with or without children.

Shows Christ and the plan for redemption very clearly. Great illustrations. The kids look forward to reading this at night. Highly recommended for easy devotions that provoke good questions/responses naturally.

A wonderful Bible storybook that has normal illustrations - not cutesy and not historic.
The stories all point to the greatest Story of all. Written by a member of Keller's church in NYC.

This is one of the best Bible story books where Jesus is revealed from the very beginning in the OT and God receives all the glory (not great heroic bible men).
