Gary Hansen
If this book were only chapter's 3-7, or if chapters 1, 2, and 8 were more like them in quality or kind, I would have given it five stars.

3-7 are case studies of amazing Christian community movements in Europe and America, showing passionate disciples thinking creatively about how to shape their life together to build discipleship and serve God's purposes effectively in the world. Great stuff.

The other chapters present a theological frame for this that suffers from shifting definitions and over

Still in process. This is the third book in Reggie's trilogy on present-future directions for the church. His first two were very influential in helping readers have an understanding of what the missional church is all about.

This one, like his other two, is not prescriptive as much as descriptive. He is writing about realities that are already happening. In this case, he is referencing "the rise of the post-congregational church." This is in reference to new churches whose organizing principle i

I know that I am a later-comer to the "church as missional community" dialogue, but hopefully there's room for me here. Again, another one that sat on my "to read sometime" list and has now found its' way into my journey. This one is so very well done. But it also give us examples of the types of missional communities that are growing an ...more

McNeal does an excellent job describing "missional" and provides examples from the U.S and Europe of how it is being done.

One of the more helpful and challenging books in thinking about what it means to be a church that is doing the mission for which God has called us for: make new disciples and make faithful disciples.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading and was challenged by this book.

I love that write up about Soma Communities.

McNeal makes the point that church is not and should not be done methodically and uniformly. Every group and gathering should have a unique personality that reflects Jesus.
Jacob Van
The church needs to be missional as a community. Agree with the thesis and enjoyed the case studies. Very encouraging and challenging.
Excellent book for learning about Missional Communities. Not just theoretical, but has lots of real-life examples. Really helpful.
Jury is still out on this one...
