During the last days of the Civil War, Luke Jensen is made part of a detachment to deliver the Confederate treasury to the new capital from Richmond, which was under siege. He knew four of the men and the commander. The other four were new to him and he was suspicious by their manner.

They were headed to Georgia and had to avoid Yankee patrols. They finally ran into a big one and the commander was killed. The four Luke didn't know wanted to take the gold. Luke was still loyal to the Confederacy.

In the last days of the Civil War, Confederate Soldier Luke Jensen is tasked with helping smuggle gold out of Richmond before the Yankees can get to it. He is ambushed by deserters and left for dead. He must recover from his wounds and then move out west. This begins his career as a bounty hunter.

I loved it—betrayal, fighting, drinking, whoring and breaking things—all you can ask for in a good western. It is simply written and fast-moving. This book was like a refreshing easy day that comes bet
Good western yarn that takes you from the end of the Civil War to the mountains of Colorado.
Fast-paced and compelling. Excellent entertainment.
Great plot, bravo!!!! Ties up some loose ends in the saga of Smoke Jensen!
Touches briefly on large areas through time with Luke Jensen, who he was, what happened to make him what he was and then jumping back into his family. Really enjoyable, but this means I'll be having to go collect the other Jensen family members books and catch up on their stories. Fast read, looking forward to the next book.

Great as always

William and J.A. Johnston are top western writers. Anyone who likes Western s has to read their books. They're the best. I plan on getting all their books.

I enjoy this story very much, especially the character descriptions and settings. However, all of the events seemed stretched and way too coincidental to have actually (even in a fiction world) happened. I would still recommend as a good light read.
