Third book in the series, and still holding my interest. I was initially attracted to the post-nuclear disaster setting, which reminded me of 'The Chrysalids' which I loved in school. In order to save his friend and complete his mission so he may rejoin his fellow angels in heaven, Armand will need to work with the very wraith responsible for the situation he is in. Theodora is a wraith, some one that doesn't officially exist, and takes care of the ones she loves and keeps hidden by going after bounties from assassinations. After a botched hit, Theodora reluctantly works with Armand to help complete his mission. It isn't long before their walls start to come down and they stop seeing each other as enemies but rather the part of themselves that is missing. Their new found love and trust in each other will be tested when they will not only try to save Baruch but help save the world.

I did not care for Armand or Theodora at first. Armand complained and complained about the situation he volunteered for but didn't do much to change it. Theodora's way of putting cred (money) over human life rubbed me the wrong way. She claimed to go out after the Oracle to help one of the Shade's (humans born with a physical defect and not considered normal) when she knew that he would never want such a thing. They were both really set in their ways of thinking until they met each other. Armand showed Theodora that she could trust, love and rely on others and through his strong faith, gave her hope. Theodora in turn showed Armand the true pleasures of being human and gave him a reason to fight. Both these characters are passionate and loyal to those they care about and in the end, they were two of my favorite characters from the series.

Rebel is the final chapter in the Prometheus Project trilogy. We see even more of the horrible ways the Shades are treated but the time finally comes for them to stand up and demand change. You really wanted to stand up and cheer for them. All the familiar characters of the series are back and ready to bring those responsible for the repression and evil behind the scenes scheming, to justice. Rebel takes the unusual mix of science, romance and religion and make it not only work well but make it a wonderful read. Rebel definitely takes the series out with a bang.

Theodora is a wraith, who officially does not exist, and she usually takes every opportunity to earn cred. Interrupted whilst deliberating about her latest mission, she injures an innocent bystander, but that's nothing compared to the hell the man faces in the custody of the Institute for Radiation Studies. And watch out for the Society of Nuclear Darwinists...

Theodora lives outside of the system. Her passion - earning the “cred” she needs to keep those she cares about out of the hands of The Society. No matter the cost and trusting no one but herself. That all changes when she meets Armand.

He was different from other men she had known, fully equipped with an enviable moral code and a determination to keep his word. He was kind, a quality Theodora had never seen before in any human. She could trust him.

It is a volatile meeting for Armand and Theodora. Their conflicting agendas and diverse personalities clash at every turn. Even though Armand has lost his wings, he is still an angel in every moral sense. Whereas, Theodora believes in the power of “cred” and what it can buy if a person has enough of it. The growth of these two very powerful characters as they learn to let go and love is pure joy, but that is only one part of this delicious story.

Although listed primarily as paranormal romance, it has elements of sci-fi and urban fantasy. It didn’t take me long to acquaint myself with this great world set in the year 2100. Ms. Delacroix did an incredible job of world building. I didn’t have to read the first two in the Prometheus Project Trilogy to understand the terminology: words such as wraith and shade came naturally. I will admit this is a book I normally wouldn’t pick-up in a bookstore as urban fantasy isn’t my cup-o-tea, but I do enjoy a good sci-fi every now and then. I won REBEL in a giveaway, and I am so glad that I just didn’t put it on the TBR for another day.(less)
