Very thorough and technical with many illustrations. I felt that better editing would have made this more readable (including dates along with epochs and centuries and better annotations of the illustrations, for example). I also feel that the interpretations in the book are uninspired and lockstep with the common paradigm of fetishism, which I partially reject. This book gave several examples to reinforce my perspective:
