Diesmal war der Klappentext doch ein kleines bisschen zu vielversprechend.

In diesem Band geht es etwas melancholischer zu. Cal ist weg. Verschwunden. Und das setzt Morgan richtig zu. Der 5. Band ist geprägt von Traurigkeit, Verzweiflung und Verwirrung.
Morgan beschäftigt sich sehr viel mit sich selbst und denkt über Cal nach. Hunter ist dabei ständig an ihrer Seite und unterstützt sie. Erst in diesem Band merkt sie und auch der Leser, wie isoliert sie wegen Cal war. Ihre beste Freundin hatte sie verloren und Cal hatte sie fast vollständig in seinem Bann.

So allmählich beginnt Morgan zu verstehen, wer Cal wirklich war und was er vorhatte und geht dagegen vor. Immer wieder will sie ihn doch zurück und ist trotzdem unheimlich wütend und traurig. Diese Stimmung zieht sich das gesamte Buch über hin und finde ich vollkommen in Ordnung und verständlich. Aber auch Hunter wird in ein völlig neues Licht gerückt. Er ist für Morgan da und es wachsen Gefühle, die die beiden sich wohl nie zu träumen wagten. Das gibt dem Buch einen gewissen Hoffnungsschimmer. :)

Von der Story her kommt die dunkle Seite von Wicca immer mehr zum Vorschein und der Leser merkt, dass auch das Gute niemals ohne das Böse existieren kann. Denn da wo Licht ist, ist auch Schatten. Morgan erlebt schwarze Magie und auch deren Folgen. Sie wird immer tiefer hineingezogen. Dies kennenzulernen ist wichtig, hält die Story aber irgendwie gefangen und bringt sie nicht voran. Das fand ich etwas schade.

Ansonsten kommt aber wirklich kaum Langeweile auf. Der Leser wird von einer seltsamen Situation in die nächste geworfen. Man bekommt immer nur kleine Häppchen und Hinweise und das große Ganze wird dann am Ende aufgelöst. Jedoch hat das große Ende in DIESEM Band eigentlich nichts mit Cal und der dunklen Welle zutun, weshalb für mich die Story ein bisschen auf der Strecke bleibt.
Nichtsdestotrotz reifen die Charaktere heran und alte, zerbrochene Freundschaften erblühen neu.

Fazit

Ein schöner 5. Band mit viel Gefühl und Melancholie! Er gibt der Story allerdings nur einen kleinen Anstupser, weshalb es für mich leider nur für 4/5 Punkten reicht.(less)

I never realized it - but the author draws me in with her writing with the follow up of each book. You can see the progress of her writing. And since the first two books are all about introductions and getting to know the character, it gets easier to skip all that and just get basic details. It saves room for more action and new emotional levels. And it makes reading all the more enjoyable.

If Morgan didn't think she was traumatized enough as it was, she's even more upset with having to deal with the reality of the previous book's events. The boy she loved tried to kill her in order to save her from his mother's evil intentions. Her biological mother had an affair with someone that was decidedly not her mate Angus. I like the series for it's constant mystery and tension, though I feel like the characters, Morgan in particular, could have had some development. Morgan is deeply conceited, thinking about the looks and looks and looks. And the way the book goes, it seems like it is ok to think that good looks will get you far. I suppose in a way you should sort of expect it because their too good to be true and they are going through a tragic time. But at the same time, they seemed to be only people that were there supporting her, so how could they get involved with dark magick like that?

I loved the way that Morgan and Bree made it up sort of in this book though. What it seemed to state and say to me was that we should never ever let a boy come between that of a friendship because a friendship should always be more important and should always be stronger. The story line in this one didn't excite me as much but I think thats because the drama has died down a little and I suppose in a way this reflects the reality of the real world outside of novels and books, because its not always drama after drama after drama with no break at all.

Reading about David having his powers stripped though was a little sad. I know he used dark magic and clearly that is a bad thing, however, he was using it to help someone out and didn't really seem to know what he was doing. Thats what makes it sad, in that he was just wanting to help someone, not to hurt someone or kill someone. I do feel that this pulls the reader in. A part of me of course wanting to now read on to see what becomes of David. However there is also this new romantic element, is something occuring between her adn hunter. will that cause more rifts in friendships? and of course, is cal really gone or shall we see him appearing any time soon?(less)

Über Band 5 verteilt lernt man Hunter besser kennen. Man erfährt etwas über seine Vergangenheit und durch die Tagebucheinträge seines Dads auch relativ viel über seine Eltern. Ich mochte es auch sehr, dass die Freundschaft von Morgan und Bree nicht sofort wieder da ist, das wäre absolut unrealistisch, sondern die beiden sich rantasten. After the first book I thought to myself, "Well that wasn't AMAZING, but it was good. There's a lot of potential". Then after the second book I was thinking my first thought might have been wrong. I absolutely adore these books. The plot line in them is so interesting and unique that you cannot help but to devour them. I've never read another series like the Sweep series. Awakening just made me love it even more. Following Morgan through her tantalizing love life is just driving me crazy. There is no way to predict the plot twists Tiernan puts into her stories. I think it's great that Morgan was saved by Bree and Robbie. The two most important people in her life before Wicca. (And besides her family) and even though I hated Bree for her bitchy actions I wished she and Morgan would be best friends. Friends are very important. I know that too and I feel it also that way.

That's the premise for all of Morgan's torturing throughout this book. You go on such a roller coaster ride of emotions with her that you literally feel them all, as she's displaying them. That's the premise for all of Morgan's torturing throughout this book. You go on such a roller coaster ride of emotions with her that you literally feel them all, as she's displaying them. Her first love, the love she thought was her soul mate, and his mother Selene along with the coven that she created, tried to kill her. They enclosed her in a burning barn and left. This is what Morgan has to live with throughout this book. This is what she needs to get over.

Not only that but Hunter is making her weak in the knees, her heart flutter and she feels an amazingly pull of connection towards him, that she can longer control or fight. But him being a Seeker for the International Council of Witches, doesn't make it easier either. Is Hunter just using her as well? Is he just waiting for her to slip up, to use dark magic, so he can do his 'job', and take her down? Should she trust her feelings towards him, even though it could be Cal, all over again?

Mix in the fact that someone in town is using dark magic again. Morgan doesn't know if it's Cal & Selene back in town, trying to get back at her, or to horror and surprise, if it's David, someone who has now become a dear friend to her, from Practical Magick. Hunter seems to think it's David, while Morgan is still fighting that it just cannot be.

Morgan, grows up in more ways than one in this book. It's amazing to see how she transforms, but she's also got the issue of not being able to connect like she used to, to the circle that she is. Ever since Cal has gone and Hunter took over, shes not feeling the things she used to, when they used to form their circle. What could it?

With Sky & Hunter in her life, having her back, does Morgan dare to be free? Does she dare to find out more about her witch life? Once again, just like the books before, we get Book of Shadow entries. These entries go back and forth, from Hunter and Hunter's dad. It's so awesome to read!

I'm totally on team Hunter. I was never a team Cal girl and now I'm even more proud of it! Hunter is perfect. (Well, let's hope so, LOL)

I'll leave you with this wonderful moment, between Morgan & Hunter:

"It changes colors with the sunlight. At different times of day it will be white, lavender, pink, even pale blue. It's a powerful healing stone. And there's something else it can do." His hand closed around the stone. He looked at met, and his green eyes were as fathomless as the sea. "If a blood witch holds it and sends energy into it, it will reveal what is deepest in his heart."

Hunter opened his hand, and in the very center of the crystal I saw myself.

In a review thst I previously read, they said that this book was slow compared to the previous books. I don't completely agree with that person's opinion. Some parts were a little slow but I think that is true for any book. In Awakening, you get to know Sky Eventide and Hunter Niall a liitle better. Morgan's powers don't develop more like they did in the previous books but she does seem to be stronger as a person. This series has a way of lingering after I put down each book, making me feel as though I'm living in it's world rather than my own, and that's a pleasant effect. I love this series. As you read each book, you grow more with the character. I can relate with the estrangement Morgan encounters when losing someone close to you, and the feelings are well interpreted in these books. Cate Tiernan is truly gifted. If your a fan of Lisa Jane Smith books you'll love this series!

Morgan has escaped an attempt on her life, but now she is confused about who to trust. And there is definitely some evil still happening around town. Is someone still after her or is it something else all together?

I can't help loving these little books. The magic is fun but there are some serious messages here too. Tiernan gets the messages across without beating them over your head. I think this is a great series for teens, I can't wait to see what happens next.

Jump up and down! This book was great! EEk! Hunter and Morgan kiss!!! It's perfect. When I was making sure when I order the book from my library that they were in order so I used Wikipedia and now I know that Hunter and Morgan have a kid...when I accedentily read that I screamed and started punching the wall!! It sucks! But I have to remember that I don't know what happens to Cal or Sky, Hunter Morgan or even Bree!Can't wait to read Spellbound!

Read this in 3 hours at the bookstore yesterday. Fun. That was all i did. Read. Thats what most of what ive been doing for the past month has been. Im really only reading this for the story because sometimes it strikes me how rediculous all of this is... i know its not meant to be realistic but still books like this put such a different image out there for pagans. but like all bad movies that were once books i move past taht.

Awakening by cate tiernan is one of the most misterioud books i ever read. When Morgan finds out her boyfriend trys to kill her because she is a witch with many strong powers. Now Morgans has to find a way to get rid of all the gifts Cal her boyfriend gave her. When Morgan finds herslf surronded by frieds that she is not sure to trust or not. If you want to know more you'll have to read it!

This is my favourite by far. It seems that Tiernan is finally writing to her full potential in this book. The magic described (which can be very difficult as describing bolts of lightning and all those things are easily written fakely) was rather exciting, and the side characters are actually developing some deeper character themselves. Interesting. Looking forward to the next one.

There's an air of lassitude there, a general acceptance of eccentic or flamboyant behavior--the heat simply makes people do crazy things.

I went to school in New York, and after school went back to New Orleans. Then I went back to New York (Manhattan) and got a job in publishing and started writing. My first book, a young, middle-grade chapter book, was published in 1990.

Living in Manhattan was incredible, even though I didn't have a lot of money. There was so much to do and see, and so many interesting people to watch. There was a lot of frenetic energy there, and sometimes that felt very wearing and hard to live with. After eight years I was ready for a change, and my husband and I moved back to New Orleans. (Are you seeing a pattern here?)

(While I was in NY, I helped edit "The Secret Circle" by L.J. Smith. I thought it was great.)

We stayed in New Orleans five years. By the time we had two small children we knew we had to find someplace safer to live. I was glad my children were born in New Orleans--I had been born there, and my father had, and his father had, and his father had and so on. There was something about the connection of generations of blood coming from one place that I found very primal and important.

Now I live in a cohousing community in Durham, NC. This is the most suburban place I've ever lived, and it's very different from living right in the middle of a city. For one thing, there aren't enough coffee shops. However, it's incredibly safe, and the community is very important to me. There are a lot of strong women here, and I find them inspiring.

Am I a witch? Well, no. Even Wicca is too organized a religion for me. I'm much more idiosyncratic and just need to do my own thing, which is kind of new-agey and pantheistic. It's not that I don't work or play well with others, but I need to decide for myself when I do a certain thing, and how I do it. However, I can really relate to Wicca, and I so appreciate its woman-centeredness and its essentially female identity. I love those aspects, among others.

I have several favorite writers. Barbara Hambly has been the biggest influence on how I describe magic. She's an incredibly imaginative and empathetic writer with a gift for creating a rich, sensual world. I love Barbara Pym, an English writer whose books came out mostly in the fifties. She was a master at describing the thousand tiny moments that make up a woman's day; how the seemingly small and inconsequential thing can suddenly take on a huge emotional importance. I greatly admire P.D. James. She's one of the very few writers who makes me actually look up words in the dictionary. She has a beautiful, precise, educated command of the language that leaves me in awe. I love Philip Larkin's poetry. I read a lot of nonfiction and also have some favorite romance writers. Before anyone groans, let me say that these women write really well about women trying to achieve emotional fulfillment, and that's kind of what we're all doing, right? I also just like reading about sex. Anyway, Jennifer Crusie, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and early Linda Howard are my faves.

And then of course there's my dark side, but more on that later.
