I found this book great fun to read. The fun of it is that, unlike Agatha Christie's and Larsson's books, this is the real stuff, real cases with real characters. Some of them actually hilarious, others just dramatic. Basically, throughout much of the 19th century, forensic science wasn't developed as it is now, so poisoning was rife. A number of British murder / poisoning cases are presented in this book.

I found this a long book, but some of the detail (such as the availability of poison, the quick trials / verdicts and the ineptness of the criminals) was fascinating.
