This is a great text for anyone looking for an introduction to the history of the House of Stewart. It's very much a footnotes version of the Stewart story but will give an excellent basis from which to start a more in-depth study. The book is split into very concise chapters- one for each descendent- which gives the reader a rough guide to the events of that person's life without getting bogged down into too many intricacies. This was interesting because, rather than focus on the royals, Thomson covers the history of the whole family from its beginnings as Stewards in Scotland. There were many prominent Stewarts in different parts of the world and some infamous. It is rather amazing to watch the spread of a family over the world and the development of the different branches.
