This is one of Marcia's best! I couldn't put this one down and had to finish despite being exhausted and sitting on a freezing cold tile floor in a cold hallway reading by the light from a bathroom. (There was no where else to read because every other room had someone trying to sleep.) Full of everything I've come to expect in one of McClure's novels: "astoundingly attractive" man, humor,...more

Second Read Nov 2011: This is one of Marcia's books that really sticks with you. The characters and story are memorable. Definitely one of my favorites!
First Read May 2010: Marcia McClure is quickly becoming a favorite author. I’ve read a couple of her eBooks and two of her novels, all have been a pleasure to read. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one, I had read a few reviews that said this was their favorite McClure book so I gave it a try. I really enjoyed the story, the romance and th...more

My very favorite!!!! I really loved this one! Vaden's zest for life and her being intrigued by the town "hermit" are so believable and heartfelt. I could feel the things she felt and could understand her frustrations, her excitments, ect. I loved the fall setting of this book. I enjoyed the situations where Ransom would be kissing her one day and then scowling at her the next - to me it made sense why he would do that. I am a sucker for a story where a man wants to keep himself distant from a wo...more
Vaden and her prim and proper sister, Yvonne, arrive in the West for a year-long stay with their beloved aunt and uncle for an extended visit and to help with their general store. Vaden, who is always seeking adventure, is certain that it lurks around every corner--especially the corner from which the bearded, grizzly recluse named Ransom Lake appears. When his stormy gray eyes meet Vaden's, she's overcome with curiosity. After a series of mishaps repeatedly throws her into his path, she believe...more
I loved, loved, loved, this book and I will go out on a limb and say it is probably my most favorite Marcia McClure book to date! Marcia is the Queen of clean romance...meaning sex free...but delivers some of the most heart pounding kisses a girl could ever dream up and this book was no exception.
To be honest I was a little worried when I first started reading because the female lead, Vaden, seemed a little too over the top nostalgic about everything. But soon I found her charming and infectious...more

This is a book by Marcia Lynn McClure so of course I loved it. I am enthralled with everything she has written. This particular story takes place in a western town. To give you a better idea of the story note that Ransom Lake is the name of a man and visions are something that he has. It was a unique twist that I really enjoyed.

i loved this book. marcia lynn mcclure has some weird names for people, but i love them. ransom lake is the name of the main guy in the story. very original no doubt. i hated the part in this book when those dumb idiots took vaden on halloween and almost buried her alive. stupid jereme. i think that was his name. i don't care cuz he's just an idiot and i don't have to remember his name.
Its a romance and it is smulchy with the best kissing scenes you have ever read and above all it is clean and may make you wish to bake a pie and live in simpler times. I also adore the author and have met her in person and she is delight. She also includes a picture of her husband in the back of all her books because he is the inspiration for her heroes.
Definitely one of my favorite McClure romances. One of the things that makes or breaks a story for me is if the obstacle keeping the H/h apart works, and in this story, it works. These were exceptionally well-drawn characters, especially the sunny, gutsy, guileless Vaden. The brooding tragic hero was well-done, even when he was doing his best to be obnoxious, but the heroine was really unique, just the kind of loving, irrepressible optimist it would take to persist in exorcising the demons from a...more
Marcia spins her tales of love, life and laughter...adventures woven around those compelling romantic instances that most appeal to a loving heart. Her books will leave you with a contented sigh,a delighted smile, feeling rejuvenated, cheerful and uplifted.(notes from about the author)
Her books do just as it says above. They're perfect!!!!

Excellent!! This story chronicles the love story of Vaden and Ransom Lake, who happen to be the parents of Autumn Lake (The Haunting of Autumn Lake).
Vaden comes to the small town to live for a year with her aunt and uncle. She meets Ransom and is instantly intrigued by him. He is a hermit, and lives a very solitary life. Jerome Clayton is a town dandy, and has intentions for marrying Vaden, even though she does not want him.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marcia Lynn McClure grew up influenced by the reminiscent stories of rugged, rural Colorado farm life fascinatingly recounted to her by her parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts…tales of runaway buckboards, mule-drawn plows and dust pneumonia; verbalized images of stream-flooded meadows, frozen over in winter, where a child could peer through the crystal clear ic...more
