I will be the first to admit that a Clark mystery is not really substance material. Even some of the other mystery/thriller authors I like to read (Hoag, Palmer, etc) have more "meat". But I like to categorize my reading in three sections: 1)serious, thought provoking material, 2)not necessarily literature or that serious but still has substance (hey, I gotta put Stephen King in a better category than brain fluff), and 3) complete brain fluff.

I always like Mary Higgins Clark because I know what I am getting. Since I have read so many of them, I am getting better at predicting who the "murderer" is, but I still find that I can't stop turning the pages to find if my guess is correct. She is a clean writer and gives me just enough suspense without making me too scared.

i finished this book last night and it was a pretty good book. again, mary hiigins clark goes back and forth and each chapter has to do with a different charachter in the character's going on's. but it does not get confusing and annoying. i liked ths tory line about the main character trying to find her brother and see what really happened and either him or turn hin over in the murders that have been recently linked to his sudden disappearance. his only sib, carolyn start trying to figure ou...more

Mary Higgins Clark- Where Are You Now? (Simon & Schuster 2008) 3 Stars
This was my second attempt at reading Clark’s books. I have to say that I am not overly impressed by her, but I know many people would disagree with me! Charles Mackenzie has disappeared and his sister, Carolyn is determined to find her brother. She receives a message asking her not to look for him, signed by none other than her brother. More and more it begins to look like finding him may not be such a good idea...more

Mary Higgins Clark fans
OK, I will admit to being a Mary Higgins Clark fan from the get-go. What I most like about her books is that she builds suspense, but (for me at least) the solution isn't obvious from page 1 - having said that, though, you can still pick the book up and put it down to do something else without losing track of the story. Maybe that doesn't mean it's "Literature," but I always enjoy her stories!

I didn't love nor hate this book.
I did like that the book was a page turner. I liked the short chapters allowing me to read 5 minutes here or 10 minutes there. I did like that it was an easy read for the situation I was in. I liked that the author included so many suspects. I did feel creepted out by the murderer thinking in first person. I did think it was blood and guts clean for a murder mystery.

I'd give this 3.5 stars. It's about a college student named Mack who disappeared ten years ago and calls every Mother's Day and has no other contact with his family besides that. His sister, Carolyn, declares to him when he calls at the beginning of the book that she's going to find him. So the story unfolds as she tries to find him and is warned not to by a note left from Mack at a church. It starts a tailspin of events as another girl also disappears and they think that Mack is the culprit...more

I love Mary Higgins Clark. She draws you into her stories and in the back of your head you think you've got it down to two to three possible suspects and then she throws a wrench in. Usually before they announce it I've figured out who it is but thus far I haven't got it past three...
Okay and now I've finished it. I was right about one, wrong about the other. I knew there were two people involved in the kidnapping/murders and I pegged the older voice but the younger voice I was c...more

Typical Mary Higgins Clark that has you wondering "who dun it" up until the last pages. The only think I dislike about her main characters is that none of them work. They are professionals with titles (lawyers, etc.) but rarely are required to actually put in an 8 hour day at an office. They pack their bags and head to beach towns to investigate at the drop of a hat. Come on, Mary! Perhaps it's time for a character in her mid-to-late-20s that - say, works in finance... perhaps one ...more
Fans of Mary Higgins Clark know she has her formula. Her first four books didn't seem to be as formulaic, but ever since then, there are certain things we watch for. The mentally-incompetent person who knows something, but is being protected and told to shush, and when they finally talk, it's the clue to the whole case. We watch for the mentions of clothing and food (during the 1980's, the heroines wore capes and boots, and ate pasta and crusty bread with green salad and wine) We also know t...more

Predictible. I think her books have really gone downhill but I'll continue to read them I'm sure. I have read all of her books to date. She churns them out too quickly...a good fluff book though I guess.

Read this for Book Club in one afternoon. I haven't read a lot of Mary Higgins Clark, but I'd guess her others are pretty similar. This was a "can't put it down" mystery that left me guessing to the very end. But I may be a little dense. A more experienced mystery-reader may have had it pegged from the beginning, and I felt a little sheepish for not figuring it out myself. I didn't necessarily relate to any of the characters and it didn't change my life, but it was entertaining.

Having read several Mary Higgins Clark books I can say this is not one of my favorites. The plot line was a little bizzare and weak. A man disappeared and for ten years calls his family once a year, on Mother's Day. It appears that he hangs up if questioned during the call and only says what he wants to say. It was obvious to me early on that there was something strange in the calls and I was right. The answer was a little surprising, but only because there were severall plausible character...more

I love any Mary Higgins Clark book, even though this is the only one I have listed on Goodreads, I have read most of her books. This one was good but not one of my favorites, it didn't suck me in at the beginning as her books usually do. I thought the climax at the end was lacking because it was so abrupt. That being said, true to form, she did keep me guessing until the very end. her books are always a quick read and worthwhile.

Another Unpredictable Mystery From Clark
As usual, Mary Higgins Clark kept me interested from start to finish with another compelling mystery story - mixed with a little romantic interest. Detective work focuses on the main character's brother: why did he disappear ten years ago and, if another person was involved, who was it? Once again, I didn't know the culprit before Clark revealed him/her.

I certainly knew going into this book that I wasn't going to be blown away, but like a sick habit I cannot stop reading Clark's books, I guess because I've never missed one since I was first turned onto them in my teen years. Ah, the nostalgia!! At any rate if you've never read one of her books you'd probably be pleasantly surprised. They are decent mysteries but after too many they start to run together...
