An easy read, but deals with attitudes to friends, family, marriage, morals and responsibilities in war time. The characters are well drawn and the story lines are easy to follow and link up with each other. Having grown up in Hull immediately after the war, with all the bomb sites and family stories of what the city endured, I could identify with the themes in this book.

Family life would never be the same for many families in Hull after the heavy bombing, especially for Marie and her family. I enjoyed this book. It tells of struggles and hardships of friends and family's during what must have been a dreadful time. it was easy to become involved with the characters and the events of that time. I must say I was hoping for a different ending though. I think I may have found another author that I really want to read more from.
