I received this book because of a GoodReads giveaway for which I am infinitely grateful! It arrived on my doorstep today and I sped through it with all the alacrity and of a Roman escaping the eruption of Vesuvius.

Firstly, it's worth noting that I'm an adult reviewing a book intended for teens. Therefore, one must keep in mind that the selection criteria are entirely different from those of an adult novel. In today's world, the real criteria for how good a young adult book is revolves around the
I have to admit that I downloaded this book to my kindle based on the title alone, without any time investigating what the intended audience was. Yes, I am addicted to all things Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, having personally visited the excavaction of Pompeii on a trip to Italy.

Since this book was about the eruption of Mt Vesuvius, I grabbed it. Shortly after I started reading, I realized this book was intended for a younger audience, most likely young teen girls with an interest in history. Thi

This is the second book in the series, and though it is obviously intended for teens, the first book (which I got free on my Kindle) was enjoyable enough for me to purchase the second. I have always been fascinated by Volcanoes, so the subject matter appealed to me - I remembered the sad story of Pompeii.
This installment was entertaining and kept me interested throughout. Murray does a great job of making the reader sympathize with and relate to the characters. It is easy to read the story of Po

Recommends it for: Everyone
This is the second book in The Gilded Mirror series. It follows 15 year old Anna Moore. Everyone has heard the tale of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. This book is set in 74 AD days before the eruption that changed the lives of thousands of people. It is very well written and keeps the readers attention through out the entire book. There are some slow parts but it does not take away from the story. Again the author manages to capture what I believe would be the feelings of people in that time. I ...more

When I read the blurb I just knew I had to read this book. History and volcanoes - two of my favourite subjects at school! And after enjoying the first book of The Gilded Mirror series I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. The plot is again well developed, faster paced this time, and the settings so wonderfully recreated you are instantly taken into life in Pompeii. Gripping, dramatic and again appealing to those outside its target audience. This is a clearly a writer with a great deal of talent.

Vesuvius Rising is an interesting and easy read for younger teens. It has been well researched and the author brings Pompei and environs alive with her writing. The story is about a young girl whose curiosity gets her into all kinds of adventures and you can't help but admire her guts and determination. I look forward to reading more of the series.

I am not a fan of the history of Vesuvius as I am the other 2 books in the series, but this was a great story that was full of adventure. I was not able to put it down.
