This is a wonderful book based on letters written home from several countries during WWII. The writer of the letters, Iola Hitt, was a nutritionist assigned to a nursing unit serving in Germany, France, Japan and several other locations until the end of the war. The book came to my attention because she is the mother of a friend of my brother and of my mother. Mrs. Hitt brings a different perspective to the war, that of a young woman from the Mid-west seeing the world for the first time. She ...more
