The Cow Who Clucked by Denise Fleming is an adorable story about a cow who woke up one day and could not find her moo. She searched all over the farm she lived on trying to find it and when she began to lose all hope she came across a hen who had woken up with the cows moo. I would love to have a story like this in my classroom. I feel that the children who come through would get so much enjoyment out of it. Even though I knew how the story was going to end I could not put the book down. I feel...more

The Cow who Clucked was a pattern book about a cow who lost his moo. Instead he could only cluck. So he set off on the adventure of looking for his lost moo. He checked all the farm animals and the animals the come his way. He searched and searched all day long. He ask the dogs, the snakes, and the goats, and still no moo. The frustrated cow marched his way home. Once he arrived at the barn at dark he shuffled past the hen and asked if they had his moo. Turns out he found it and they switched th...more

One morning a Cow wakes up to discover she has lost her "Moo", and the only sound she can make is a "Cluck". On her way to discover who has her "moo", she meets many other kinds of animals, including animals not typically associated with a farm! Cow eventually finds her moo, and the story concludes on a positive note for all.

I can't chose one particular reason why I loved this story so much. The colorful top to bottom illustrations alone could entertain the reader. I discovered that the author...more

The book, The Cow Who Clucked, starts with a cow that wakes up to realize that she has lost her moo. She begins to search for her moo among all of her animal friends. When they make their own animal noise, the cow moves to her next friend in order to find her moo. The illustrations are very unique and essential to the story. Denise Fleming, the author, uses pulp painting to illustrate her books, which is a very interesting art form. This book is a great resource to teach children the different n...more

I loved this clever and funny picture book by Denise Fleming. It is a great choice for an elementary lesson on prediction and inference, as the context and visual clues are very helpful and present throughout the text. The story of the confused cow who lost his moo is very intriguing and child friendly, and would be a great read for not only teaching prediction and inference, but also animal sounds for those younger students who are learning their animal sounds. The illustrations in this picture...more

A repetitive book--very repetitive considering how many animals cow comes across. Such repetition could be good for a child learning to read. Fun to see some animals not in the norm for these kinds of books. Toddler potential if you have the kids repeat back the animal sounds. And one could definitely skip pages if the kids started to lose attention. The pictures will probably grab their attention, as Denise Fleming's illustrations usually do. A lap-read would allow for deeper perusal and apprec...more

This is a great story about a cow who has lost her moo. She goes around to all the different animals on the farm to see if they have her moo. In the end, she finds the hen and gets her moo back. This would be a fun book to read aloud to young children because you get to make all the different animal sounds. Toddlers would love this book too because they are just figuring out all the different animals and sounds that they make. The only thing I don't like about this book is the illustrations. I t...more

Comments on the Story:
The story is great and very useful for reading to small toddlers. One of the first things toddlers learn and like to imitate is the sounds that animals make. Thus, reading books that talk about these sounds is a useful tool for beginning to get children interested in sitting down and hearing stories. Plus, children will readily identify that something is wrong when the cow clucks and this will be funny to them and they will want to see how it will be resolved. You can also...more

I absolutely loved this book! My two year old loves books that cause me to make lots of different sounds because he learns to imitate them in the correct spot in the story. This book stars a cow who wakes up to find her moo is gone. She then goes on a farm-wide search to see who has stolen her moo. She visits each animal in turn (which the reader then gets to imitate each animal's sound) until she finally comes back to the barn to find out who it was! A super cute and super fun story for kids!

Probably okay for small children who are learning animal sounds, although I'm sure there are better books for that objective than this one. Kids could act out the sounds with this book as the cow wanders through the barnyard. When a story lacks substance, I prefer that it make up for it by having outstanding illustrations. This was an unfortunate case of a 'blah' story (a cow who searches around the barnyard for the animal who took it's 'moo') and unmemorable pictures to illustrate it.

Cow woke up to realize that she has lost her moo. She went around the farm to the different animals to see how had her moo. She went to all of them then headed toward the barn where hen was. Cow realized that Hen had her moo. They were able to get there moo and cluck back. This is a good book to introduce different farm animals to children as well as the sound each animal does. There is a constant repetition throughout the book.

This book has a few rhyming schemes which is fun to say and hear. It's about a cow who lost his "moo" and one day started cluck-ing like a Hen. He then goes in search of who has his "moo" and found the Hen who did. Throughout the book, the cow meets a lot of animals who he thinks might have his "moo"; this would be a great book to use in pre-k or kindergarten to talk about different animals and the sounds that they make.

I love the simple repetition and this is a great book.

A cow wakes up to find that she has lost her moo. So, she decides to go around the farm asking other animals who has it. This book is fun and straight forward for children. I think children would like it for its repetition, pictures, a clear ending, and overall good story. I think it is fun to be imaginative with things like a cow "losing" their moo and can get students/children to interact.

This would be a very fun read to early readers. With the predictable patterns and its rhythmic lines, this book provides an opportunity for children to start saying the lines with you, giving them a sense of accomplishment. This book allows for interaction between the reader and the listener. Aside from the fun storyline, the illustrations provide a fun and exciting story for children!

What's going on around the farm?? The cow is clucking, and all the other animals are making the wrong noise, too! The cow looks all over for her Moo, but after asking each animal she knows, "It is not you who has my moo!" Who has taken her moo? Readers who pay attention to detail will solve the mystery quickly, while others will be surprised to find who's mooing.
Neil Nicholson
In this story a cow loses his “moo”. Throughout the story, he goes around the farm asking other animals do they have it. This is a good book for phonemic awareness and becoming aware of sounds because the reader can participate in repeating the sounds that the other animals make. I would recommend this book for pre-k and kindergartners.

Cow woke up one morning and found that she had lost her "moo." She goes around the barnyard, asking every animal if they have found her "moo." With a day of searching, Cow returns sadly to the barn. Will she find her "moo"?
I liked the illustrations in this book. It shows the sounds of the various animals and it has a happy ending.

my son loves this book--and he's currently only 8 mos old. it's fairly redundant (which is probably why he likes it) and follows cow throughout her day as she struggles to find her "moo". of course she finds it in the end--no surprise there. beautiful illustrations and a book that's easy to read--oh--100 times or more. :-)

This is a well illustrated, predictable read for students. The pictures were fabulous and each page has the same sentence structure and has phrases that repeat throughout the story. Beginning readers would learn to read this book with ease and I believe they would find it entertaining as well.

I would say that this is a good book for toddlers. It tells the story of a cow who realized that he lost his moo and was given to the chicken. They basically switched voices. The book has great illustrations for youngsters and gets them to learn the sounds of the different animals.

Cow wakes up to find she's lost her moo. Who took it???

It's fine. Just ---How did the cow and the chicken switch their cluck and moo back? We sit through so, so many animal stops (about three too many) and then you don't give us a solution to the problem? Not cool.

Jackie
Cow lost her moo...she must find it! She searches high and low, near and far to find her moo. In the end, every animal has his own voice and all it well in the countryside.

Used for "Cheep, Oink, and Moo: Chicken, Pork, and Beef" storytime-April, 2010.

Hard to go wrong with a Fleming readaloud...especially when these farm animals are so brightly illustrated and the story so fun. Cow wakes up and has lost her "moo". She visits all the other animals in the barnyard to try to find it again.

I absolutely love this book and the illustrations. I think my kindergarten class will really enjoy this book! It is about a cow looking for her voice and the poor cow looks all day long. Finally at the end of the day she finds her voice.
Christie Suh
This book is about a cow how lost its "moo" and clucked instead. The cow goes around looking for its moo and finally finds it when he hears a chicken that mooed. This book is very repetitive and geared more towards younger children.

-Pre-K bound
-Cow wakes up to find that instead of mooing, the cow is clucking.
-After visiting all the animals, the cow comes up to the hen who then switches sounds.
-Great for prediction of which animal makes that sound.

Good for preschool aged children about a cow who lost his moo and went to other animals on the farm to find it. Great for audience participation. Having the kids clucking and mooing. A bit to long for fidgety babies.

pb6: I felt this book was a little to repetitious. However, it does a good job at demonstrating to young children that sounds that animals make. A would be good at getting a child involved in the reading.

This book is a good tool to use when talking about finding who you are. There are many different things one can do in life, but knowing that anything is possible is important, especially for children.
