Pride and Prejudice is my all time favorite novel/story. I mean who doesn't love Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy! So I was instatnly captivated by this book. I have read other P&P variations, sequels, and continuations. Some were def worth the read, and some where only okay. This one though I just absolutely loved. Basically, Reynolds asks the question of what if, and explores the different paths the story could have taken if things went just a little different. One of the things I really appreciat

I’ve always wondered what would have happened had Darcy not fled from Rosings after his disastrous proposal, and Abigail Reynolds attempts to answer that question in By Force of Instinct. This “what if?” novel is packed with misunderstandings, more pride, and more prejudice.
While I would consider this one Abigail Reynolds best Pride and Prejudice variations, I really did not like her portrayal of Georgiana or Mr. Bennet. Thankfully, Mr. Bennet isn’t in the story enough to really detr More...

I love this author's 'what-if' series in regard to Pride and Prejudice. Her writing style and the conversations of the characters bring to mind the original piece.
In this what if that takes off from the point of Elizabeth refusing Darcy at Hunsford, they both learn to look closely at themselves and effect change that leads to a change at how they see each other. Familiar character names take on new roles in how they effect the plot so the reader may be sure of the end result, but not how More...

I probably did this to myself reading all of these Pemberley variations one after the other, but there is a sameness to them. With the exception of _The Last Man in the World_, the "variation" seems to be an earlier acknowledgment of the attraction between Lizzy & Darcy and more time spent with them as a couple. This is nice for any P&P fan, but it means that _From Lambton to Longbourne_, _By Force of Instinct_, _Impulse and Initiative_, and _Without Reserve_, are basically the same bo

I felt the same way about this book as I did about her last one--initially annoyed by the "miscommunications" between Darcy and Elizabeth and loving it by the ending! I really liked the rapport and strong bond between the couple as well as Darcy's unwavering devotion to Elizabeth. My minor complaint is tthat Elizabeth's insecurity and lack of confidence azt the book's beginning did not match the strong character I believe her to possess!

As far as Austen rewrites go, this wasn't half bad. Not sure that all of the pre-marital hanky-panky was completely realistic (especially for someone as rigidly proper as Darcy), but this was an interesting concept and a great rainy day read. Very enjoyable. :-)
I do have to agree with some of the other reviewers on this point, though: the portrayal of Georgiana as a bratty and almost vengeful adolescent did not ring true.

Probably the best of the Pemberly Variations. I felt like this one really developed the characters and made them feel 3D. There were more plot twists in this one too, which was refreshing. The author's language and writing style is a bit repetative, but the descriptive language in this one was really spot on. It's no Jane Austen, but over all a good book and a quick but satisfying read.

3 ½ stars. 4 stars for the beginning of the book, 3 stars for the middle and end. I enjoyed this book, but was a little frustrated that the characters of Mr. Bennet, Mr. Gardiner, and Georgiana were very different than the original Pride & Prejudice Jane Austen characters, and not for the better.
This P&P variation is what happens if Mr. Darcy, after proposing at Hunsford, doesn’t leave, he has family business that keeps him at Rosings. Does it give Elizabeth a chance to reconside More...

I'm glad I read this book last of the series, or I may not have read any of the others. There are misunderstanding, and then there is overkill. This book hardly goes a page without some new misunderstanding between DxE. The repetitive and annoying time spent in each characters' head nearly made me dislike both of them all together.

I liked this book better than the Last Man because I felt like the author retained the qualities of Elizabeth and Darcy that I so loved in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, despite the scandalous behavior.

I'm a little bit sad that this is the last of the Abigail Reynolds Pride and Prejudice variations that are available. This was a good one, but I really disliked the characters of Georgiana and Mr. Bennet, who were the antagonists in this version. These variations are clearly not for the pure Jane Austen fans who only want to read what they imagine Jane herself would have written. However, if you are like me and are obsessed with just getting more of Elizabeth and Darcy, not caring that this is d

I really wanted to like this book. I really wanted more Elizabeth & Mr. Darcy... but after a few chapters I couldn't recognize them anymore as the characters I've known and loved. Once the book's storyline got into uncharted waters, I have to admit, it lost me. I just cannot imagine Mr. Darcy setting up a love-shack in the woods for himself & Elizabeth... and Elizabeth actually going a long with it. I do think the book is well written, I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to accommodate g

This was by far the worst of Reynolds' fanfics that I've read. Didn't like Elzabeth, her family and the story. At least the others I read were somewhat entertaining...

I love her Pride and Prejudice spin offs. Her writing style is fitting and characters more or less retains their nature as Austen may have intended, but with bit more approachable air, I think.

A winner from Abigail Reynolds! I liked it even more than Impulse & Initiative....in fact, this may be the best published P&P fanfic I've yet read. However, Austen purists are likely to object to the bodice-ripping as too far out of character, so consider yourself warned. If you love the bodice-ripping as I do, this is a great read. She definitely needs to continue writing these, and if I could ask, I'd have her do an actual sequel to add to these variations.

This is my least favorite of the P&P variations. The others made me want to run out and pick up more. After I finished this one I just took a nap.

For all purposes, the rating I give this is proper. I did not find this a variation so much as a deviation. If you want the rating of the novel itself, add a star. If you are looking at this with a love of Pride and Prejudice and want a true rating, look at what I gave it. This book, and it's series, left me unsatisfied as I went into this hoping for a variation and left having read little more than a harlequin romance.

Well, the best thing I can say about these is that they were a quick, light read. Very, very much written like a Harlequin romance novel. They have scenes of Lizzy seducing and bedding Darcy before marriage which really bothers me even thought I don't fell like I'm a complete purist, but come on!

though occasionally amusing for sheer audacity
or bodice-ripping creativity (or lack thereof), truly awful.

But what if family business required Darcy to stay at Rosings after his disastrous proposal?
