Carte de aforisme, extraordinara prin cinism si intelegere profunda a vietii, este o delectare pentru orice cititor. Fara a da sfaturi, privind cu umor amar ceea ce viata, amorul si moartea inseamna pentru fiinta umana, Schopenhauer reuseste sa spuna ceea ce fiecare dintre noi gandim si nu avem curajul de a formula.

A cultiva pesimismul extrem: iată menirea lui Schopenhauer în filosofie. După el, se prea pare, scopul filosofiei este acela de a stoarce din individ numai cele mai negre gânduri. N-am crezut că, trecând prin pesimismul lui Cioran (care este plin de lirism şi de subiectivitate deopotrivă) şi cel al lui Nietzsche (supraomul care s-a ridicat împotriva orânduirii universului mai mult decât oricare altul), o să ajung să-l privesc cu resemnare pe Schopenhauer, zeul filosofiei al cărui regret nu a ...more

Wow, who knew Schopenhauer was a misogynist prick? If you cannot take the sections about women and marriage in jest I suggest you skip them altogether. Other than that, the book offers many valuable insights, unfortunately they are best served while young. But there are little gems here and there for the more versed reader as well - I especially enjoyed the thoughts on pity, joy and optimism.
All in all, neither the best nor the worst, but just like Schopenhauer writes about women, kind of useles
