At one point, Adidas was an international power, on par with some mid-sized country. This book talks about how Adidas controlled the Olympics, did business with the Soviets during the cold war and controlled international sports using little brown envelops of cash and big checks.

If your into sports, business, history, fashion, nazism, communism, capitalism, brand building, hypnosis, bribery, america kickin ass, germany kickin ass, the french kickin ass, blood fueds or remote cigar lounges in the alps, I highly reccomend this book. The story of the Dassler brothers and the subsequent generations that ran Adidas and Puma is amazing. And contains at least a passing reference to all the things listed above

A fascinating and extremely well researched book. It was a little too heavy handed on the business information especially in the later chapters (I was not a business major) but it should be expected since it was written by a business journalist. It really gives an interesting look into the rise of Adidas from a simple cobbler making quality shoes to a emblematic company.

Adidas and Puma were started by two feuding German brothers. One of them was named Adolph. The other one was named something else.
Anyways, apparently they were crazy people. I have enjoyed every book I have ever read about shoes and crazy people. I look forward to this one.
