Bilingual Review: ENG/RO

Ever since the very first pages, I felt incredibly hooked by the story. I usually know right from the beggining if I like a book or not, and it seems that I was right this time too.

Hannah is a lovable character right from the start, with her shyness, sense of humour and insecureness. She is very dedicated in everything she does, and will not back out when it comes to the people she loves, even if she is in mortal danger. Througho

First, a quick note.

Jen Minkman sent me a review request, asking that I read/review Shadow of Time. After reading the blurb, and a few reviews, I thought it sounded like something I would really enjoy!

Once I started reading, I found I just couldn't get in to it. So I emailed Jen, and asked if she would rather that I post an interview on my blog, than a negative review. This is her (wonderful) response:
I've been thinking a bit today about your opinion on Shadow of Time, and since I asked for yo

I received the book from the author in exchanges of an honest review.

I wasn't fully aware of what genre Shadow of Time was before I started it. Fantasy or chick-lit?
First half of the book is definitely chick-lit and I loved it! I adored Hannah; she's funny, independents og ready for a great summer. No teenage insecurity, but a young woman capable of standing on her own two feet and she doesn't need a man to have fun. Her brother Ben is amazing and almost as fun as his sister. Josh is fantastic a

I absolutely loved Shadow of Time. It was one of those rare books that leaves you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what else the author can throw at you and loving every minute of it. I was immediately sucked into the story that Jen took such great care to create.

Hannah has got to be another one of my favourite bookish heroines. She's just so likable and I love the inner strength that she radiates even though she's actually really shy and awkward. But the best part about her was that she
Shadow of Time has quickly become one of my all time favorite paranormal books. It hooked me from the very beginning, and had me fully engaged and captivated until the very end, which isn't common for me. In a nutshell, it's the story of a young woman who goes on a summer vacation to a log cabin in Arizona with her brother. There she meets up with Josh (her brother's childhood friend) who quickly develops into her love interest. The story is fueled by this burning desire along with her recurring ...more
I love it when I come across a book that sounds interesting upon reading the summary but then becomes so much more when you actually read the book. The writing was excellent, story line unique and very well researched. This book incorporated clean romance, Native American spiritualism (specifically Navajo), supernatural/paranormal content, historical references, and included characters that don't fit the normal 'type'- which was quite refreshing to me, however some may be uncomfortable with read ...more
When I turned eighteen, I dated a twenty-five-year-old. To be honest, nobody said anything about the age gap, but to me, it didn't feel right. There were too many differences. He wanted someone who could move in with him and cook; I wanted to go to school and party. So when I read that Hannah was twenty-three, and Josh 17. I thought "no way will this work out!"

But then, Jen Minkman's magic began to work on me. Her writing is energetic and flows without awkwardness. The relationship she build for
Reading a book by someone you know is always perilous - what if you don't like it? But from the first couple of pages from this book, I already knew I had nothing to worry about.

Jen has a beautiful writing style that is both captivating and deeply professional. Her mastery of the English language is amazing, especially considering it's not her native tongue. (I can only dream of having a vocabulary like hers, and will from now on be consulting her when I do anything in English, ever.) The relat
I listened to the audio version of Shadow of Time, which is an excellent story about maintaining close friendships and love throughout the ages. It includes Navajo folklore, romance, humor, reincarnation, spiritualism, and history. It’s hard to classify this one, but it’s all bundled together to great effect. The supernatural aspects of the story really drew me in, including animal spirit guides, a wise medicine man, and skin walkers.

The story begins when high school French teacher Hannah goes o

Shadows of Time was a very interesting book. There were all kinds of different elements and genres thrown into one. First you have a sort of historical element going where we learn about the Native American people who live (lived)in the area, along with words and customs. Then we have a romance in there which, if left alone would maybe be a historical romance. But no. We have reincarnation, time travel of sorts and suspense thrown in as well. Crazy.

For the most part, I enjoyed the story. It was,
I have to be honest and say that I didn't warm up to the story or the characters instantly, but it didn't take too long for me to become engrossed in the mystery and romance, and by the end the love story gave me a lot of fuzzy feelings.
My favorite part of the novel is the Navajo lore. The setting, the language and the rituals added a new dimension to the novel. Jen Minkman merges the paranormal with a romance that transcends time, and throws in a mystery that kept me guessing until the end. It'

Our main character is Hannah, who is on her way to Arizona, where she's suppose to meet her brother, Ben. Before she gets there, she runs into a hot stranger while fueling up. She's blushing like an idiot, but manages to somewhat get over it, until she realizes The Hottie is Josh, his brother's best friend. He's the guy who used to call her "big sister". And he still is only 17!

I was given this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
The cover makes a lot of sense when you read the book as it is a scene from within the book. I tend to favour covers that are a scene from the book as you know your minds eye is on the same wavelength of the Authors imagery. The cover depicts Hannah and Josh, or maybe even Josh and his wife in a former life in a Navajo cave.

I was given the book in exchange for my honest opinion and review. The book is descriptive and rich in the Native American history. I loved Hannah and being able to see into her mind. I went through stages with Josh, sometimes I wanted to smack him and say, "What are you doing?" and other times he would redeem himself seeing what an idiot he was being with Hannah. When Hannah and Josh were together I would forget he was 17 and not older, Hannah seemed to have the same problem too. It did feel li ...more
Shadow Of Time by Jen Minkman

To be honest, this is my second novel to the world of paranormal.
I’ve read several novels before laying my eyes on this one, But this was the second paranormal novel I’ve ever come across. And I must say, I am NOT Disappointed. I can’t believe I left this genre obsolete till now.
What a fantastic read this novel was.

With Shadow of Time Jen Minkman has written an amazing and original love story. Shadow of Time is a very good read and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I have not yet read any books that revolve around the Native Amarican culture and Jen Minkman knows how to explain the culture and mix it great into the story without just smacking some information on the pages. She paid lots of attention to the rituals and traditions.

There are aspects of this book that I really liked and others that were a bit questionable for me, the main one being the age difference between the guy and girl in this. The guy is 17, almost 18 and even though he has been considered a man in his culture (American Indian) since the age of 14, it still rubbed with me a little that the object of his affections was a 23-year-old woman.

The story is a slow burner and by the time it built up to the ending I had really gotten into it. There is a lot o

I read this while visiting family in Flagstaff and was just so tickled to read about nearby places and imaginary, magical reincarnated people. YAY! A steamy, yet sensitive romance with fun cultural/historical tidbits. Also, the main character had a great relationship with her brother. Hurrah for healthy and loving families, especially when evil forces are gaslighting you.

Minus five points for using the word "cardie". Oh the horrors of flagrant and unnecessary abbreviations.

Favorite Quotes:

Shadow of Time is a historical paranormal romance. This book was given to me by the author and Paranormal & Romance Authors That Rock for an honest review. Hannah Darson is the main character in this book. Hannah is a 23 year old teacher who just completed her first year of teaching. She is returning to her mother's cabin in St. Mary's Port, near Page, Arizona in the Navajo Indian reservation region for the summer. Her younger brother, Ben is already at the cabin for the summer break before ...more

This was a truly amazing story of timeless love, reincarnation, all interwoven with the culture and mystery of the Navajo people. Josh isn't your ordinary 17 year old boy. He has lived many lifetimes, and after his spirit quest in each lifetime, he is granted the full memories of every lifetime prior. In one of his past lives, Josh had incurred the wrath of three shamans who practiced dark magic, and now in each life those he loves are targeted. When Hannah returns after several years away, She ...more

An excellent new story by Jen Minkman. She continues to surprise me. This story is written to perfection. The story has everything you're looking for, like romance but not too much of it, it consists of supernatural creatures and skin walkers. It was nice learning about the Navajo folklore, their culture, and traditions. There was reincarnation, spirituality, and even history. I highly recommend this story and my real review will be on Audible soon. Thank you Jen for entertaining me and keeping ...more
I can't recall the last time I read a book about Native Americans. Maybe 4 or 5 years ago, I'm not really sure. So it felt new when I read Shadows of Time. I've come to know more about tribes and their traditions, lore and beliefs. It was really interesting.

Hannah was going to spend a quiet vacation with her brother in their cabin. On her way home, she met a guy in a motorcycle while she was belting out a song. It actually was a cute scene. Anyway, soon she discovered that the guy she saw was ac

Note: I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author in exchange for a review.

I found Shadow of Time to be a bit of an uneven reading experience. There are a lot of positive attributes. Minkman is a talented writer, and has obviously edited and crafted this book so that the story flows smoothly, even the time travel/flashback bits are understandable. The romance is beautifully handled, with the characters slowly moving from childhood friends to lovers in a believable and tender way, wi

I'm quite picky when it comes to romance (and even more picky when it comes to chick lit). But this paranormal romance sounded very interesting, especially because there was supposed to be a lot of Navajo lore in the story. And I can't resist anything that touches folklore and mythology, and Nature oriented beliefs.

First of all, I think this book isn't just a paranormal romance, it's also a paranormal mystery/thriller, and that makes it even better.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The tone was a little different than what is been reading recently so it took me a little bit to get into the story, but I liked the characters and the slow burn romance and the setting which was so different.

In tone, this felt a more like an Australian story in that it was a little denser and more descriptive. But I like Australian authors. And it makes sense that it feels different since it was first published in Belgium and the Netherlands and then transla
Shadow of Time by Jen Minkman

First I have to say this book was amazing, and I found the authors writing and the research it must have taken to write this story was truly fantastic. Shadow of Time is well written, the characters and story line were captivating, and I couldn’t put this book down. I have to say Jen Minkman has written a very original story and I found myself truly caught up in this novel.
