Good book. Brady and Maggie had connected one night shortly before he left to go to England on a scholarship. He had never been back. When Maggie discovered she was pregnant she wrote to him and got no response other than some money regularly delivered by his brother. Eight years later she finds out that he didn't know about Amber and went to New York to tell him.

Brady had wanted out of their small town so much he couldn't wait to go. Since their parents had died he and his brothers barely tole

When you have it all what else is there to achieve?

Brady knew the road to a successful career meant leaving his small town in the rearview mirror. All the hassle of family problems, nosy neighbors, and too much sorrow has him pack his bags and move on. Brady knows he is going to miss what he considers the love of his life, Maggie but knowing departure is the best for both of them, or so he thinks.

Now Brady is hit with the news that he has an eight year-old daughter Amber from his liaison with M

Maggie Brown, a single-mom for the past seven years, believes her daughter Amber's father (Brady Ward) wants nothing more to do with his child than send a monthly check by way of his brother Sam. Figuring that's at least better than what her own disappearing father did for her and her mother, Maggie accepts the situation. That is until the day Sam shows up to confess he never told Brady about Amber. Furthermore the monthly money was from Brady, but had been meant to help Sam keep the family farm ...more

Okay, the only reason I read this book is because it had a kid in it. I’m a sucker for kids and animals in books. For some reason I think they, and animals too, bring out the best [or the worst, sometimes] in all the grown-ups around them. In this case, little Amber did the former. You’ll fall in love with this precocious kid.

Amanda Berry did such a great job in telling a love story of two totally different people who slowly try to come to terms with their past and figure out if they might build

Shelves: romance
The romance and sexual tension in this book are great, and the author didn't rely on the old Andy Griffith Show "Man in a Hurry" cliche of Brady coming home and realizing how much he missed the slower pace and the strawberry pie to bring him to the realization that his family was more important to him than his fast-paced career. But where Father by Choice really shines is its depiction of Midwestern stoicism. The way the brothers avoid direct conflict and let their issues with each other simmer ...more

Definitely a solid 4.5 stars, in my opinion. I liked the fact that this story felt a lot more realistic than a lot of other romance novels. I could totally see all of it actually happening somewhere. Nobody did any really stupid or immature stuff to move the plot along. I really liked that. A lot. It was incredibly refreshing. I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel, with Penny as the main character, though. ♡♡♡
