There are two things Boston detective Lacey Gardner knows about killing vampires. Slicing off a head or a hit directly to the heart are the only surefire ways to kill one. Silver is their Achilles heel. A vampire never wears silver.

When she meets bartender extraordinaire, Damon Harte, her heart does a quickstep for the dark hunky guy. She's learned the hard way that havin...more

This was one exciting book! I was so excited to read it that I was afraid I would be disappointed. I wasn't. ;) Meeting Lacey was straight forward - she is a Boston detective with far too much experience with Vampires for her taste. She is actually a member of the Fringe, a special covert division of the BPS where her job is to take down all of the paranormal bad guys in Boston. You see, her sister Rebecca was nabbed by a vamp and Lacey has made it her mission in life to take them all down. She...more

The world has seen vampires, but they never have been around long enough for present day to believe they really exist. Damon is a vampire that has been around for approximately 400 years. Unlike other vampires though, he is stronger, faster, and can walk in the sunlight. What makes Damon so special? The silver cross he never removes has magical powers that stave off the vampire side of him. We don't get to find out everything the cross is capable of during this story, but it is obvious that ther...more

Silver Cross

Lisa's review of
The Silver Cross
By Debra L. Martin and David W. Small

I received a copy of The Silver Cross in exchange for an honest review. When tragedy happens it can put your life in a tailspin. That is exactly what happened to Lacey Gardner after the death of her sister. Lacey is a detective in the Fringe department which is the division of the police department that deals with things of the paranormal and the regular department doesn't want to deal with. Lacey is really good for...more
What to say without being a spoiler? Hhhmmm. Well, here is my best shot at it...This book was a good read, an easy read, and a pretty fast read for me. I thought this would be a "typical" paranormal romance with vampire and human woman, but was actually quite surprised to find it to be different than that. It had the romance, I'm not saying it didn't, but it was put in a different way than most books of this genre. Which I personally found to be GREAT! So many times the paranormal romance over-r...more

The Silver Cross was an excellent read. Not too slow at all - the pace was exhilarating and exciting. I read it in one (long) sitting. I found I just could not put it down. I needed to know what was going to happen next with Damon and Lacey - together or separately. I am sure there will be a sequel since the end leaves the reader hanging and the epilogue leaves the reader wanting more. The beginning of the story really puts in place a solid foundation for understanding the premise of the "silver...more

The Silver Cross is obviously vampire orientated however I really liked the story to it. It was different, with one vampire setting another up and Fringe team at the police department that was a hushed up department and a police woman who was ingested vampire blood and now has super senses.
I liked Lacey's character she was ballsy but she has far too many one night stands. Her partners Cole and Jackson were partners who I would like to have if I were in the Fringe team.
Damon Harte is a vampire wh...more

Lacey Gardner is a Fringe detective, and while her personal life might be a mess, she's good at the job. Lacey has but one mission--rid Boston of all vampires. Maybe then, that'll help her come to terms with what they did to her sister.

But there's one thing Lacey hadn't counted on. Damon Harte. The guy is simply scrumptious. He's exactly the kind of hero romance readers love!

And then there's Nic. Nic is just the worst kind of evil. I love to hate him.

In my opinion, the war between Damon and Nic...more
This book overall was a good thriller and well written. The beginning hooked me then I met Detective Lacey who is a tough, smart cop but shows her weaknesses. I enjoyed the story and seeing how the ending brings you back to the beginning of the book (can't spoil it!). I did think the book was way too short! I could have used more of the exciting action scenes and more of the hunky Damon. Can't wait for the next one.
This was a very interesting story. Without giving a huge spoiler away, the history behind Damon was very fascinatin and unique. I was expecting this to be a typical paranormal romance. I read a ton of paranormal and I do not mind the predictability of many of the para romances, but I was ready for a change and this book hit the spot. The romance in this book seemed to play second fiddle to the watching the mystery unfold before us. What happened to Lacey's sister? Who is killing the women and wh...more

Lacey Gardner works for a special department called the Fringe Department. At first glance, they sound like they hunt down people with bad haircuts, but in actual fact they are vampire hunters. Lacey has a particular issue with them as they killed her sister long ago and has never really been the same since. But not only that, due to an altercation with that same vampire, some vampire blood got into her – meaning that her strength, reflexes and senses are heightened and that she can take on any...more
Lacey Gardner is a Police officer at a Special force in the Boston Police force, her team fights Vampires. Years ago she lost her sister suddenly while they were out, last she saw was that she was bitten by a vampire before he took off with Rebecca.

When her team and her investigate brutal murders, she meets bartender Damon Hart, who has wears a silver cross on a chain around his neck. it is so dominant that it is hard to miss/

Lacy is a FRINGE detective. Fringe is a secret department with in the police department that works on ridding Boston of vampires. Their jobs are top secret. Lacy is good at her job, but is plagued by the past loss of her sister Rebecca.

When she Lacy meets the bartender of Phoenix Damon Harte she thinks she finally has that chance at love. Damon always wears a beautiful silver cross his grandmother gave him. The story behind the cross is an interesting one. Damon finds himself in the middle of a...more

The first chapter of The Silver Cross reminds me of an all time great mythology, "Daughters of Copper Woman," setting events in motion that touch Lacey's life later in time. Lacey might not have believed in monsters yesterday, but today she has a rare opportunity - to walk the Fringe. Silver Cross is a sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat (unless you are in bed, in which case grab-the-covers) sort of story. Relate-able characters, intricate plot, and action scenes which are well thought out weave togeth...more
"The Silver Cross" is a fast paced paranormal, romance, suspense novel. The authors pen their characters strong in a well developed plot. A great read for any vampire lover.

This review is based on a complimentary copy which was provided for an honest review.
An interesting and entertaining "vamp" story.....liked the characters and need to know where things go with them....Lacey and Damon.....

I edited this book. This isn't an "official" review, but I wanted to clarify the rating. It is not a bad book, and it is, of course, well-edited, but it's not my favorite genre, being a paranormal romance. So please understand that by rating it at 3 stars, I'm not saying it isn't good; I'm saying it's not the sort of book I like to read personally. If you like paranormal romance, you will enjoy it! In fact, I'm holding a giveaway for it soon on my blog! So watch for that.
