Marwen Bouassida

This was a good article but the content was not what I was expecting at all. The thesis of course is that intellectuals (meaning people who are well informed and in a position where their opinions hold some weight in the public eye e.g. professors) have a responsibility to speak up when they see injustice occurring and to use their privilege and status to help inform those who otherwise might not have access to criticisms of the status quo.

This is easily recognized as the one work that put Chomsky on the map as an intellectual in the world of foreign affairs. While somewhat brief, it still captures the fundamental ideas of Chomsky in terms of power structures and the various means and ends employed by a state. Moreover, it displays what the true purpose of an intellectual should be opposed to the intelligentsia who are thus merely another, "cog in the machine." I recommend this for anyone interested in Professor Chomsky.
