When Risa loses the second key to hell, she angers several powerful people, and she’s starting to feel the pressure from all sides. She gets a visit from her father, who gives her an ultimatum: Get back the key or he will kill her friends.

Risa also finds herself under the scrutiny of the vampire council, some of whom consider her a monster who should be destroyed. But they

I kind of liked it but I also kind of hated it. The various characters and relationships were fun to read about but the lack of progression in certain story arcs was extremely frustrating.

-In book 1, the heroine (Risa) was forced to find the three keys to the gates of hell. This was book six and how many keys did she have? None. She found two but the silly cow lost them to the bad guys. What was even more frustrating was that she didn't actually know who the bad guys were. S
Rating: 3 out of 5.

90% of the book was very frustrating.. Frustrating to the point of annoying. Most of the dialogue that takes up space is pretty much pointless. I rather there was something happening and the description of it..

Suffice to say, I am glad that the next book is the last in the series. This story has been dragging on for too long...

As a long time Keri Arthur fan it kills me to say this but the further I get in this series, the less I find myself enjoying it. Thank goodness there’s only one book left because I’ve been seriously contemplating calling it quits. The original Dark Angels storyline of “find the keys, save the world” seems to have gotten lost somewhere along the way amidst all of Risa’s relationship woes, problems with the vampire council and friendship complications. The fact that the her

As a long-time reader of this author, I was rather surprised that I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I have the others. Half werewolf/half Aedh and now, thanks to Azriel merging his essence with her, Risa is now something more. She needs to recover the 2nd key that’ll open the gates to Heaven and Hell, as well as locate the 3rd key. And all the while different factions are putting more pressure on her to get the keys for them. The threats to her friends are becoming more dangerous. She’s also r ...more
DARKNESS SPLINTERED picks right up after the events of DARKNESS UNMASKED. Risa is in a pretty bad state. Her father of course jumps right in and threatens the life of her friends so she has no time to wallow in her misery and jumps right back into the fray of finding the keys. There is plenty of action, suspense, danger and romance at every turn of the page.

I was disappointed in Risa as the book started. She not only put herself in danger but also the baby she is carrying. Thankfully her pity pa

No matter what Risa does, she still can't catch a break. She's lost the second key to the gate to hell and due to some shocking revelations and unfavorable circumstances, she's banished her Reaper protector from her side. Not the best of moves on her part, but a hurting heart doesn't always make for the most sensible mind. All she wants to do is sleep for a month and forget all this ever happened to her, but everyone else seems to have a dif
I think by now everyone knows that Keri Arthur is one of my all time favourite authors and has been for many years.

It is because of Riley Jenson's books that I eagerly dug into the Dark Angel series and I was excited to read about Risa as an adult... I was not disappointed...

We see Risa building up a relationship with Azriel, her reaper protector, as we progress through these novels, her target is to find the keys to prevent the gates of hell opening... We know she failed in the last book and no
I loved this latest book about Risa. It ended the way I thought it would but I'm not disappointed. Looking forward to the next instalment.

This is the sixth book in the Riley Jenson spin-off, which features her niece Risa. If you want to catch up the series starts with this book [[ASIN:0749954914 Darkness Unbound: Number 1 in series (Dark Angels)]].
For a story this far into the series it still has a lot of oomph and many paths to travel. Arthur has once again managed to create a spunky female lead, who tends to speak before she thinks and act before she realizes the consequences of her actions.

Six books into the Dark Angels series and it seems that Keri Arthur is just heating things up. If you thought what happened in the last book was interesting, then you might be in for another wild ride!

It’s no question that Risa and her boss, Medeline Hunter have been at each other’s throats for some time now. But when Risa is confronted with a challenge, she is offered a choice: stand up against Hunter and perhaps find the answers she needs to get the keys.

So far in this journey, Risa has alway

Keri Arthur's Darkness Splintered was an amazing read takes Risa on another hellish journey try to find the three keys that open heaven and hell and prevent the matter from happening. She hasn't had much luck in the matter lately, and things continue to go to crap.

Last go around, Risa had been brought back to life by Azriel but the downside now is that her soul can never be reb

There are simply not enough skulls to give this series, and it's almost unfathomable how they can get better, more thrilling, more heart breaking, more... insanely good, with each installment. Simply perfection, Keri!

While the ending of book #5 gave loyal fans answers that we had been seeking, the nasty cliff-hanger also opened up an entirely new subplot and enabled the series

*My Thoughts*

So, there are now six books in the Dark Angels series and we are still no closer to solving a damn thing when it comes to the keys and the gates. In fact, we are even closer to having things blow up in Risa and Azriel's face completely. I continue to hope that instead of two steps backward, we get to the point where Risa and Azriel have finally figured out all the stupid, idiotic mistakes they've made along the way. I keep hoping that the Tao qu
As far as the series goes, this one actually wasn't terrible. Sure, there was still a lot of pointless running around like chickens with their heads cut off, but with no Lucien and no ridiculously meaningless diversion from Hunter, Risa & Azriel actually manage to stay on point the entire time. What an amazing concept!! To actually spend an entire book trying to find one of these keys that are SO DANG IMPORTANT. Of course, we're still operating by the Get Smart method of detective work, so n ...more

I'm starting this book and I can instantly tell this is part of a series and not a stand alone book. The first chapter has Risa waking after a bender on alcohol and admitting she was pregnant. What? So throw your moral compass out the door, wtf is going on. She was drinking while knowing she was pregnant.....huh? So this beginning starts out like a soap opera and that's not all. She was taken to a secret location with Iliana, Tao, and Stane. Iliana is a horse shifter and a powerful witch who is ...more
Arthur is one of my favorite authors so I was thrilled to get the chance to read Darkness Splintered. I had read a previous book in this series and really enjoyed it however this book did skip me ahead considerably. It took me a little bit to catch up to the current events, but Arthur does a good job at catching the reader up on what had happened while still thrusting the reader right into the middle of the current action. Arthur does a great job at setting up multiple conflicts for Risa, and I ...more

My English review

Another good installment and I'm so sad it's the next to last one! The stakes couldn't be higher in this one for Risa. It's becoming pretty clear that she's not going to be able to locate the keys without involving her friends and family. And can I just say that Amayla, her sword is too cool. Keri Arthur never disappoints and I'm going to be sad to see these come to an end.

I love this series. Sadly it's winding down. I think there's only one more book coming. :(

But I usually love anything Keri creates, so no doubt she'll have something new ready.

Spoiler Free: But Risa has a lot more riding on the line than last time. A LOT!

I was lucky to have scored an early copy of this book last month (I know, late review, but I'm so behind as it is, lol) and I couldn't wait to dig back into Risa's world.
She does not have very good luck, this girl. If something goes wrong, everything does. This book is no exception. After the second key goes missing, Risa puts everything to rest to find it as soon as possible, especially when her father makes a threat of his own as incentive, nothing will make her find this bloody thing than thr
Another great book in this series, although Risa is still no closer, in fact she further away now from stopping the gates of hell from being opened.

Everyone is still going at Risa to find the keys - her father, Madeline Hunter the vampire and the Aedh, but when her father threatens Mirri, Illiana's girlfriend and Madeline kills Jak, Risa's ex-boyfriend, she knows that if she doesn't do something very very soon that things are going to get dramatically worse!

This book was very fast paced - poor
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This might be my new favorite book of the series. Everything that has been ramping up in the previous installments really fell into sync in this one. There was action, romance, revelations, and revenge all rolled up into one really great read.

Risa begins this book in the same dark place we left her. She was still hurt and feeling betrayed by her reaper/lover/boyfriend and still dealing with the Maury show-esque events that had even

Risa is just waking up from a three day drinking binge after the events of Darkness Unmasked. Yes, there is the satisfaction that she finally got revenge upon her mother's killer, but she feels foolish for letting herself be deceived in the first place. Then there is the fact that she's pregnant and has sent Azriel away. Despite all that, two of the keys are in the hands of the bad guys and the various people entrusting Risa to get the keys for them are losing their patience with her and are thr ...more

Once again, Keri Arthur has left me speechless and lacking any coherent way to state my feelings other than, Wow. A huge thanks to the author that she didn't leave me hanging in the balance for too long about Risa, Azriel, and their son. Their son. I love that!

I'm really excited that the author has brought the culmination of the series down to Risa and Azriel fighting desperately to protect the last unopened gate. I mean, if Risa had succeeded herend gotten the secon

Risa is still in a race against time to locate the missing keys that unlock the gates to heaven and hell. She recently found the second key only to have it stolen and now she’s after a sorcerer who has said key and she needs to stop them before they get the second gate to hell open. As extra motivation, Risa’s being threatened by many people to get the key and all the threats center around her friends. Her father set a ticking time bomb aro

Darkness Splintered. A Dark Angels Novel. Keri Arthur

Review from Jeannie Zelos Book Reviews.
I love Keri's Nikki and Michael series, and now the new one about members of The Circle, but I’ve only read the first two of the Riley Jenson series, and as this series is a spin off and very established I found it difficult to properly catch up. My fault in that I hadn't realised the series was so far down the line. Even so usually I can pick up the themes quite quickly but I struggled here. The plot wa

The sixth book in the Dark Angel series is an intriguing urban fantasy read with lots of action and surprising twists.

To save those closest to her and stop all from breaking loose Risa has no choice but to stop the second gate from opening by finding the keys. She’s angered several powerful people and she’s feeling the pressure as she finds herself under the scrutiny of the vampire council, some of who thinks she’s a monster who should be put to death.

The 6th book in the Dark Angels series. Risa has done her best to go on a bender after banishing Azriel and when she finally emerges, everyone is searching for her with the 2nd key in the hands of the dark sorcerer but not yet having opened the second gate to hell and they are all willing to hurt and kill her friends to provide "motivation". Can Risa find the sorcerer in time with Azriel? What will happen to her friends if she can't? And what will she do about

Darkness Splintered is the 6th instalment of Risa's tale, continuing on from Darkness Unmasked and opens with her still occupying a dark space, feeling betrayed by Azriel's far-reaching decisions that saved her life. However, true to character, she is able to shed her pity-party pretty early on and accept what her life has become.

Risa has lost the first 2 keys and is pulled into increasingly pressurised scenarios as the demands ramp up from those looking to get them for themselves. Madeline Hunt
