In 1994, Richard Paul Evans, then an unknown writer, self-published a short book entitled The Christmas Box. That book went on to become an international bestseller, selling more than seven million copies and touching the lives of many more people along the way. Yesterday morning I got up when my husband went to work, and although I knew my body was still tired, I couldn't fall back asleep. So I decided to read one of the Christmas books I have had out on my coffee table for the last two weeks. I had read The Christmas Box Miracle 6 years ago and really liked it then, so when I saw a copy of it at the DI for $2 this last year, I bought it. It was a really good book to reread this Christmas. It brought a lot of emotions to the surface (like so many Chris...more
This book is about the author's journey in writing, publishing and promoting the best selling story, The Christmas Box. Although he had no intention of publishing the book in the beginning, it eventually became a source of healing for hundreds or more, especially for those that have lost a child. I have not read the Christmas Box yet, but I was able to follow and enjoy this book perfectly. This book is more about the divine intervention involved in the creation of The Christmas Box. I believe th...more

This book is about how the author got his first book, The Christmas Box, published. I find book publishing interesting, so I also found his story interesting, though I did wonder if his publishers were a little desperate for a Christmas book that particular season. I do owe Richard Paul Evans my thanks though. He starts every chapter off with a quotation. While reading The Christmas Box Miracle, I thought I probably wasn’t smart enough to have quotes at the beginning of my chapters. Then I thoug...more
Someone gave me this book because they had an extra copy. When I first started reading it, I wasn't sure that I would even finish it. I read The Christmas Box many years ago and really liked it, but I had trouble initially really getting into this book. It is about how the author ended up writing the book, self publishing it, and experiences connected with this. I guess there have been some pretty strange and amazing things connected with it. There were a number of them that brought tears to my...more
I loved this book! So inspiring! The author recounts how he wrote "The Christmas Box," how he got it published, his marketing and publicity techniques, and the momentum that evolved which turned him into a bestselling author. But the book is much more than a writer evolving into a bestselling author. It is also an account of Evans own personal spiritual journey and how he gives back to the community with his Christmas Box Foundation.
A touching and honest portrayal of an author's writing journey. I enjoyed the descriptions of encounters Evans had with strangers who seemed to need a comforting reading experience, and who found his book (The Christmas Box) to be a good source for that. I enjoyed learning about the choices and circumstances surrounding his publishing and publicity experiences. I also liked the author's choice to use language that was straightforward, rather than the writing style of "The Christmas Box", which I...more
I started the book this morning & like always - with any of Mr. Evan's books - I couldn't put it down. He is a master storyteller and he was telling his story. I enjoyed learning a little more about my favorite author, but more importantly how the miracle of The Christmas Box came to be and how it blessed and continues to bless and touch people everywhere like it has me.
Let me first say that this is not a book I would have sought out and read on my own. It was given to me as a gift, and sat on my bookshelf for a few years until I finally read it with my husband.
So, I can sum up this book for you in one sentence: "I wrote this little book called The Christmas Box and it was phenomenally successful, and everyone loved it, and I am awesome, and oh yeah, I can't take any credit for it." That's about it.
If you looooved The Christmas Box then you'll probably like...more

This book is talking about the phenomenon around the book The Christmas Box. I have never read that book, but now intend to read it. It it talking about a father who was not making it working and decided to right a book. No publisher wanted to publish it. He gave it for Christmas gifts one year and had all sorts of phone calls from family, friends and strangers telling him how great the book was. He published the book and in a years time, started a new foundation to help abused children, was on...more

A look into a spiritual journey that resulted in the publishing and eventual success of The Christmas Box. Even without reading the book itself, you can follow along with the ups and downs of the journey. I loved the parts where he received the message, interpreted it, and then realized that he should have followed the original message. The success was at times just as much of a trial as the journey to get the book known. Warm, funny and revealing - this was a good read.
A good friend gave this book to me. It tells about the author's experience in writing The Christmas Box - the inspiration he received, the miracles that occurred in allowing it to be published, the good things that have come of it to bring healing to people who have lost children, and to provide quality care for abused children. It touched my heart, especially the way he does not seem to take credit for any of it, and the way he encourages his readers to try to find a divine purpose in life. I t...more
If you've read the book The Christmas Box, this book is the author's real story of how it came to be. He writes of his ups and downs until his ultimate sucess with The Christmas Box. I actually read this (it was a gift) before I read The Christmas Box, which was interesting. It gave me many moments of realizing that in life when we feel like we're in a slump or in despair- great and exciting things could be right around the corner- there's always, always HOPE! And its nonfiction- I'm a sucker fo...more
I picked up this book - thinking it was The Christmas Box book. Only after reading the first few pages, did I realize it's really the story behind how the author ended up writing The Christmas Box. Anywho - it was a great book - the stories he tells of his encounters with readers is so very interesting. Another easy read - I love how his writing is so effortless to read and understand! I also read this in a matter of an hour or more - in one sitting, which is highly unusual for me. It also did n...more
This is my 2nd time reading this book. I had read it years ago & it had a powerful affect on my life, helped me thru a rough spot. I referred to this book several times since then. My sister's 4 month old baby died last week and it made me want to reread The Christmas Box & then of course the follow up of this - the miracle. I cried throughout the book as I see the miracles that are happening still. Because I too had a stillborn child 27 years ago and am STILL finding more healing all th...more
I honestly thought I had read this book before, but as I got into it, I realized I hadn't. Since I started working with Richard Paul Evans two years ago, I've heard many of these stories first hand, but the book still made me laugh, brought a couple of tears to my eyes, and left me feeling like I'd grown spiritually. Unlike The Christmas box itself, this book is non-fiction and leaves the reader--especially if you're also a writer--with plenty to think about. Go ahead and read it now--after all,...more
I picked this book up thinking it would be a Christmas story to get me in the mood for the season. I didn't know that is a book about a Christmas book and the author's path to publishing the Christmas book he wrote. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't it wasn't an actual Christmas book, but the miraculous story behind how his real Christmas book came to be along with all the stories of the way that book changed people's lives really makes me want to pick up the original book "The Christma...more
I just finished reading this fabulous book. Such an inspiration. I have yet to read the book "The Christmas Box". I saw the movie around the time of my daughters death. I have been to a Christmas Box Angel Ceremony and seen the wonderful statue. I put off reading the Christmas Box because I know it will hit close to home and be hard. I will do it sometime, maybe soon. This book and RPE experiences touch me deeply. Thank you for making a difference!
I just wanted a quick book to read and I thought the Christmas theme was appropriate! I read The Christmas Box, (though not on my Good Reads read book list), and loved it. This is a kind of "sequel" to it... and explanation from the Author as to his journey in writting the book and how he felt the book came from Divine inspiration. Great book. Helps us to keep things in perspective and remind us as to what is truly important...
A definite follow-up if you liked The Christmas Box. I got it on audio and really liked that the author was telling his story in his own voice. It's all about how the book came to be, with some of his life history, and then the struggles, faith, and miracles that took place in getting the book published and known...and with what must be only a fraction of stories about the good that came from it and how it touched people's lives.

When Richard Paul Evans wrote the #1 best-seller, The Christmas Box, he never intended on becoming an internationally known author. His quiet story of parental love and the true meaning of Christmas made history when it became simultaneously the #1 hardcover and paperback book in the nation. Since then, more than eight million copies of The Christmas Box have been printed. He has since written ele...more
