"I have owned a hundred women!" he answered defiantly.

The girl recoiled as from a blow. Was this man who paraded his conquests before her the same one who had feasted so freely on her lips that moonlit night in Grand Canary?

She was his prisoner now. He had stolen her and brought her to his stronghold in the desert. Her father was also a captive. Pansy Langham's life had cr

If one can look past the screaming vintage racism that permeates the entire narrative, this little gem from 1922 - written during the height of sheik fever - is a romance trip down your grandma's (or great-grandma's) memory lane.

THE PLOT:
Raoul Le Breton/Sheik Cassim is really the purely white son of a French captain and his wife, but he doesn't know that. He meets rich girl Pansy Langham in the Grand Canaries and is totally fascinated with her because she doesn't fall all over him like his Frenc

I started this book with an open mind. I knew it was written in the 1920's, and there were going to be some unfortunate racial issues to overcome. What I didn't realize was that it was going to be so prevalent in the story, and basically all the characters were racist. There were no hero or heroine to lighten things up and argue against the racism because they were racist themselves. And that's what killed this book for me. It wasn't enjoyable anymore because I hated everyone in it! I was really ...more

Wealthy millionaire Raoul Le Breton, also known as the fierce, proud Casim Ammeh, an Arabian prince, stars as the engaging, stormy hero in A Son of the Sahara by Louise Gerard

Pansy Langham, the daughter of a respected British officer who also happened to kill Casim Ammeh senior when Ammeh junior was a mere boy of fourteen, meets Raoul Le Breton in a vacation resort. They strike up an unlikely friendship, the slight English girl and the dark Frenchman.

Passionate love follows, but horror of horrors! Pansy finds out that Le Breton,

Bwahahaha! I am reading Louise Gerard's infamous Son of the Sahara, a torrid 1920s romance novel.

Our hero a desert sheikh. Sort of. In keeping with conventions of 1920s romance novels like that, he's not really an Arab, of course. It would be horrible to let a non-European man sully a white woman! *gasp* When his French mama was kidnapped by the evil sheikh who was his father, she was already preggers with her French husband's child. A fact nobody but the reader knows.

Sorta-sheikh goes by a Fren
