Nine-year-old Hannah Flynn is evacuated from Hull to rural Lincolnshire in September 1941. The child is a dreamer, a gentle and passive soul, not the sort to cope with the coarse ways of her foster parents. This story probes Hannah's experiences as she grows into a young woman.

This is the first in three novels set in Lincolnshire spanning four generations. Each of the three books read well alone but as a series they are a great read.I got really involved with the characters and enjoyed the mystical thread that ran through the stories of everyday lives. Can thoroughly recommend.
