In honor of the release of Tempting Fate today,
June 30, 2014!********

It always amazes me how inventive people can be...whether it is something from long ago which we still use today or a new product that is just catching on. We as people come up with ideas and somehow figure out how to make them real.

Writers do this all of the time. They create whole worlds, down to the last details. Some...more

I forgot how amazing these characters were.. And now I'm super excited for Tempting Fate!!

I absolutely LOVED this book.
I was a bit skeptical at first because I'm not a huge fan of time travel, but BOY am I glad I read it!
This book was actually recommended to me by a friend, and it was free on my Kindle, so why not?
The characters were kick-butt, the story was captivating, and the history was right on point and accurate.
All in all, this is a must-read book. If you're waiting for th...more

I was hooked from the first chapter of Marking Time. Despite a seventeen-year-old heroine, this book isn’t just for YA readers. Saira Elian is smart and capable, with enough sarcasm in her voice to keep her real. She’s been self-sufficient so long she’s never learned to ask for help – until her whole world turns upside down with her mother’s disappearance, and she discovers she’s from a long line of time travelers. I loved her journey from over-confidence, through the total breakdown of everythi...more
I give this book 5+++++ but If I could I'd give it10 stars +++++

MS White, I salute you for creating such perfection!

It is probably a little early to say this but this is my favourite book of 2014 so far!!

I've just finished this book and I'm blown away by how good this YA book is. I got this book because it was free and had lots of good ratings on Amazon so I thought,' what the hell, I might as well give it a go' and I'm so glade I did. This is the kind of book that sinks its claws into you ver...more
I have been reading romance novels for the past year (and for the most part loving it) that I seemed to have forgotten that there are other genres out there. It was through the happy coincidence of being in the same virtual book club with April White that I discovered this book. After reading (and liking) her smart and very often witty comments I had a feeling I wanted to discover more of what April had to say. Boy am I glad I did.

This book deals with time travel, a magical school, first love, f...more

This review contains NO SPOILERS.

The book Marking Time is a wonderfully written book in the series "The Immoral Descendants". It is a very nice change from the popular YA books currently. It it has great character development and it grabs your from the very first page. I found that I could not put it down. In this book not a detail is ever forgotten. If something that seems small is mentioned, even as a side note, you will often find in this book that...more
After reading this book, I feel like I need to go back and change all the other reviews I've given. This 5 star makes my other 5 stars feel like they should really only be 4. I enjoyed this book so much. It pulled me in and wouldn't let go. I know, I know - so many people say these things about books, you don't know whether to believe them or not anymore. Let me just say this - I was reading this yesterday in the laundry room and got so into the book, I literally forgot where I was until it got...more

THIS BOOK WAS SO GREAT I MADE A VIDEO REVIEW OF IT ON AMAZON, which is totally unlike me. April White is a freaking genius, and this book is quite original if I do say so myself. I was blind sighted by a few things that as an experienced reader, I thought I was clever enough to pick up on. I could not put Marking Time down. It killed me that I was at my swim meet and I couldn't bring my Macbook to read it. Read if you like fantasy, supernatural, mystery, romance, history, or anything. This book...more
Marking Time caught me completely by surprise. Not only this is an excellent time travel story, it's a wonderful paranormal YA, and I'm not reading many of them these days because frankly I keep getting disappointed in young adult genre in general.

But never fear, my deals. Marking Time will deliver a spunky, serious and very sensible young heroine, a lot of adventures and a pretty believable story of attraction.

Saira is a tough 17-year old, practicing free-running and tagging when she gets...more
I loved Siara the heroine who's from our time and time travels much to her surprise to Victorian England and encounters Jack the Ripper. Marking Time is such a complex story that I can't begin to do it justice in a review, but suffice to say, it was outstanding.

I raved so much about the story that my 9 year old begged to read the book and she loved it as much as I did. I think regardless of if you are 14 or 45 you will find someone in the book with which to connect- there are so many different c...more

All I can say is.....WOW! I was extremely impressed with this debut novel by April White. Although this book hides behind a guise of a time traveller book, it's soooo much more than that. It has evil warmongers and seers and vampires and time travellers and a plot that will twist you and pull you in a bunch of different directions, tying you in knots. None of the subtle clues in this book get ignored in the end, and the author pulls them together masterfully to bring everything together in what...more

April White came to my class and talked to us about this book. It was really cool meeting her and I couldn't wait to start reading it.
I was definitely not disappointed. I usually don't like YA that much, but this book was great. The characters were great and the storyline was really original.
One thing about it though is because the plot was so complex and because of the time-travelling, it got pretty confusing at times. I also found it a bit unrealistic that all the random people she meets on...more
Wow, I would most certainly rate this book more than five stars. Quite possibly, ten if I could!!! Saira is a lovable and fierce heroine. I instantly felt connected to her and enjoyed her story. Ms. White is so incredibly talented in her story telling. This has magic in every fiber of its being, from its time travel to unique characters to its science and lastly tying in historical events. I felt this story had to be properly and slowly read, since I sometimes gobble down a book and cannot for t...more
Marking Time is one of those books destined to become one of your favorites ever. Better than Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series and Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle trilogy, this book follows the story of Saira Elian, an eighteen year old free runner and tagger who discovers there's much more to her world than she ever knew. In classic YA style Saira encounters friends - including a vampire named Archer and a ragamuffin named Ringo - and sinister foes as well.

Did I mention there's time travel, too?

I didn't think I would like this book to be honest. At first I had a hard time getting into it, the sudden chasing and time skip at the beginning had me very confused, but after about 15% (according to my Kindle app), the story really grabbed me and I ended up really enjoying it.

I received Marking Time in return for an honest review from the author. Saira is fleeing from a stranger when she’s caught but the police who have no choice to send her to London to live with her grandmother. Since her mother has disappeared this isn't the first time that Saira’s been on her own. Her grandmother isn't thrilled to see her instead she locks her away in the guest wing of the family manor. But Saira has her own agenda and sneaks out of the house to explore London on her own. When sh...more

The rating is definitely closer to 2.5 stars.

I feel sort of bad that all my friends loved this book and I did not. I will admit that this had a good story, but for some reason or another, I just couldn't get into it. There were some interesting parts, but it seemed to drag a lot, and there were times when I'd read it and just wonder how long until it was over.

Honestly, I really did want to like this book, but I had such high expectations for it and few of them were met, it seemed. I don't know,...more

About a month ago I was asked to read and review this book, for an up and coming author. I was excited from the moment I read the synopsis. It sounded like my kind of book. She didn’t disappoint in the slightest.

Though this book is technically a young adult novel, April White writes in a way that could be enjoyed by all ages. It was fast paced, funny, and exciting. I became hooked on the book from the moment I began the first chapter. Though this book is fast paced, I must say this is not a qui...more
Marking Time is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Ever. Seeing as this comes from the girl who averages between 150 and 200 books read a year, that’s saying something. April White has a remarkable talent for creating strong, realistic characters, amazing fantasy settings and intriguing, surprising plots. Needless to say I’m more than a little amazed by the author’s ability to combine all three of these elements into one book. I read Marking Time in about three days, in the middle of universi...more
As seen on The Quiet Concert

"The three of us blended with the clientele as well as a fifteen year-old ex-thief, a girl from the future masquerading as a young man, and a second-son of the Lord-turned-student could be."

Despite a somewhat shaky start, Marking Time was an exciting and intense read. April White created a really strong set of characters and delivers a compelling twist to your average paranormal storyline. Saira discovers a new and dangerous world that she is a part of, one that just...more

I first heard about Marking Time on one of the blogs I read. (And no, I can’t remember which one. One of these days I will start writing notes to myself.) It was a glowing review.I thought I’d give it a try so I added it to Goodreads. Later I was contacted by White and she provided me with a copy for review. I expected something raw and unpolished as is most cases of Indie debuts.

What I got was something wholly unexpected and delightful. The writing was polished and smooth. Marking Time...more

I was approached a little less than a month ago by author April White to read and review her first book, Marking Time. She was willing to send me a paper copy of the book, so I figured why not? Well, I have to say that I am super happy that I did!!!!

Be ready for the gushing!!!!

Marking Time is probably not a book I would normally pick up to read for pleasure, but I absolutely loved it! The story was full of action and suspense and a deep plot. Every page I turned had me wondering whether or not I...more
When I first started reading this rare diamond find among the dull books I was suffering from what I call seriaphopbia (please don't let this be a serial with a cliff hanger that leaves you hanging for a year). I'm sure I would be hang from the rafters by my stockings if that was the case. I kept checking how far the end was because the story was exiting enthralling and fast paced.

I started breathing a bit better when I realized the book's pages were not filled with meaningless "filler" emotio...more
Every now and then I stumble onto a book in the free section and am blown away with how good it is, this is one of those books! Great building story that never ran dull. I am a sucker for paranormal romance novels and especially ones that have strong lead heroines, this one had it all!! One of the best time travel books too that I've read in awhile. The characters grab you and drag you into the story. I really enjoyed the lead couple of Saira and Archer, but I loved the side characters just as m...more

I bought this book while it was on a special pricing and just sort of had it in my TBR pile. I wish I had not waited to read this book!! It has everything you could possibly want in a book. Like Young Adult? this book rocks it. Like Paranormal/sci-fi? this book has vamps, weres, shifters, and time travel. Like history? Jack the Ripper is in here too. The details are amazing!

This book was great! I really liked the storyline of the Immortals & the characters. This story is very fast paced which made it really hard to put down. I'm not usually drawn to time travel books but this one definitely is one I would recommend. There's action, love, humor & tears. I can't wait for book #2 that comes out this Fall. The author said she is planning a 5 book series so I'm excited to read them all but bummed that I have to wait for them to be written & published. Please...more
This book was a refreshing read. I absolutely loved it!! I sent April a message on Facebook the minute I finished it, because I need her to write more. Despite Saira being 17 she is a lot more savvy and level headed than I was at that age. The supporting cast of characters are just as engaging as Saira and they don't get lost in the shuffle. They are distinctive and I want to get to know them better as well. This is a MUST READ! If you like time travel, vampires, seers, etc....

“So how do you know Vampires aren't just some legend made up to scare little kids into minding their parents?"
Adam's voice was full of scorn. "Because you and I exist and we're descendants of Fate and Time.”
“Another person, more or less, thinking I'm crazy wasn't going to make me lose sleep. But the look I got from Mr. Shaw wasn't "she's a whack-job," it was more like "hmmm."
"What else can you do?"
Now it was my turn to stare. "Uh, well, I have a freakshow ability to fall through spirals into other times. Is that what you mean?"
"Must be a little disconcerting, that."
"A little. The puking's fun though." Mr. Shaw laughed. I'd made the man laugh. Score one for the Clocker.”
