Nice, short...something. Hard to call it a "story", because it doesn't really have much of a beginning, middle or end -- it's more an intriguing snippet of what could be a good Reynolds novel. (But, in all fairness, that's all it claims to be.)
Alastair Reynolds, former scientist and now full-time writer. Most of what he writes is science fiction, with a strong concern for scientific verisimilitude (although he is prepared to break the rules for the sake of a good story).
