An uneven but often clever collection of stories mixing social realism with the surreal, "The Ugrupu Bird" demonstrates Sławomir Mrożek's diversity as an author. The collection doesn't really form a whole, and a few of the stories seem quite unpolished in a way that clearly reduces their impact.

Sławomir Mrożek (born June 29, 1930, died August 15, 2013) was a Polish dramatist and writer.

Mrożek joined the Polish United Workers' Party during the reign of Stalinism in the People's Republic of Poland, and made a living as a political journalist.
