This may have been an eye-opener to certain readers in the late 1940s when it was first published. It seemed overall to be motivated by the desire to help people. Its usefulness is hampered, however, by a weird combination of eugenics, sexism, and of course the standard conflation of homosexuality and transsexuality with the dubious Freudian theory of the "castration complex."
