To love or Die in a Steamy-Reamy World by Emily White is a young adult, steampunk, paranormal collection of 10 short stories. The ten stories are not stand alone stories but linked together, so keep that in mind as you are reading.

It centers around a small town in Steamville, New Hampshire and the various families that live there. In the first few stories they appear to be separate stories but you soon learn they are all mixed together in a very tangled web.

It’s a very quick read and most appro...more

This is my first collection of short stories as well as my first taste of Steampunk fiction so I certainly had no idea what to expect when I started reading. This book starts off dipping its toe right into the heart of the story, not unlike Ms. White's YA novel Elemental, and the story never really slows down to a lazy pace; making it a very easy and fast read.

In addition, this collection of short stories is actually very interestingly linked. You follow several characters specific stories yet...more

Ms. White wonderfully succeeded in instilling humor into ten short stories about vampires, zombies, ghosts, and one mad scientist. Each story is brilliantly linked. The Victorian era setting delightfully adds to the humor.

Neat how this is really one big story connected by the other short stories. The end of each short are exciting and where the climax is. It needs real action ands short story worth the read. I wouldn't recommend many people read this short story. This had filled bit me lad o' of my parched soul yuthlings. It was all like a fun expressional mix if paranormal and steampunk! As you read more and more you get more into the story and have to start connecting. In some if the shorts it could be sad, but...more

I really enjoyed this short story collection. They were cleverly written and in a few I wished for more. A refreshing change and I just realized I like steam pink.

    Emily White is a nerd.

She prefers her men fully clothed and donning bowties, her commas British, her books cheesy with big, overly-dramatic explosions, her characters awkward and endearingly real,* and watching her movies in authentic turn-of-the-century theaters. When not exposing her nerdy self to the world, she's creating her own friends and putting them in horrible, yet sometimes humorous sit...more
